Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Kawaii Mermaid - Platformer

skamocore: I'm not saying they werent, just that I wouldnt know since I didnt pick the colors. They were a lot of fun to work with actually.

So much fun I decided to chime in on the portrait edits, That was the last thing done and I suppose it shows.

an edit of my own, I got a bit carried away, and the top left, or top middle is probably the best I can do while keeping the same idea as the original, with some goofy ones thrown in. Hopefully this makes it a little less bland, crooked and a little more entertaining to look at. I haven't read over every wall of text in this thread, but I'd defenitely call it an improvement over the original.

(bottom left is the untouched original)

I'm thinking about adding some more colors to the pallette but given how carefully chosen the colors in this wonderful pallette are its too much for me to handle :blind:

I'm not sure how carefully chosen the colors actually were- I didn't choose them. The mockup was done for a challenge where I had to make an underwater mockup with thsoe specific colors.

I'd like to double what helm said about the readability of the dark enemies on dark backgrounds. When I was making the mockup, I made the descision that only moving sprites/important stuff would have any red in them, since it was so vibrant compared to the other colors, to increase readability during gameplay. So another solution might to throw some more red at them (although I would still suggest a brighter outline)- some sort of armor or whatever.

Anyway, its great to see that you're still working on it, and I'm looking forward to seeing more. You've come up with some pretty creative stuff in these screens.

General Discussion / Re: Mac users

Im in the same boat as darien. Photoshop doesn't cut it for me. Someone please make promotion and or graphics gale for mac. I don't have any problems with the cursor, its just the unease of programs that aren't specifically made for pixel art.

Pro Motion works great in wine, through Linux. That's how I pixel. It might also work good with crossover for mac, since I'm pretty sure its based off the same thing. Grafx2 should also have a mac version out, but I can't say how good it works.

Worth a shot anyway.

HAH! I'm the universe master!!!

So you know, your images are bringing up password prompts :( Its really annoying

ontopic: I haven't played, I'm on linux, and the web version wont even show up for me. The screenshots do have a lot of charm to them, though.

Edit: It almost works in wine, but it sounds very awful. I'm sure its not the music, just an issue with wine. Seems pretty fun, though!

General Discussion / Re: New banner for the site

I think its fine as-is, what bothers me is the flashing white news box images. Its never bothered me, and I thought it was neat that it pops up every now and then.

The flashing, however, makes me :(

Pixel Art Feature Chest / Re: [WIP] Dragonite

I felt you weren't getting enough out of your colors, and also that the outlines were a bit off, so I created an edit. I got a bit carried away. The broken lines in the stomach especially bothered me.

I got rid of two colors, added one, and changed your darkest green a bit. Other than that, the palette is the same.

The biggest thing I'd like to point out is using your colors in more places than what you chose them for, like the green on the chest, or grey highlight on a wing. Also on the edges, yours were dark and jaggy, and they didn't have to be.

Hope this helped.

I would double the size of the signs, the font is very clear, but they're small and scattered, and it would just be much easier to navigate if they were larger.

Pixel Art / Mario Kart (As a Game & Watch Gallery "modern" game)
« on: March 30, 2010, 01:01:40 pm »
I don't know if any of you are familiar with the Game & Watch Gallery games, but they are collection of the older Game & Watch games, which were just LCD games, and usually have a modern version of the game too.

The idea I had was to turn Super Mario Kart into one of the modern versions of a G&WG game.

My understanding of the GBC's limitations are loose, but this should fit in one of them just fine, possibly with color tweaking. The MISS and numbers were lifted from Game & Watch Gallery 3

Left/Right would move the kart from one lane to another, one coin would be one point, if you hit a shell it'd be a miss.

C+C?
