Pixel Art / Pirate animation
« on: February 03, 2011, 02:10:35 am »

Started with this: it was the character concept

This was the first step of my animation: blocking out how everything would move

This was the finished cycle, I detailed each frame one by one after blocking everything out as seen above.

Then I added an item to show how it would be held.

This was done for a weird game idea I had and am currently queuing up on my list of ideas I probably won't get around to actually doing, basically, you are pirating [THING], and have to protect the stream of data coming out of [THING] until [THING] has completed its download, I haven't given too much thought beyond that, but thats why his arm was static.

I'm wondering how the rest of the world goes about animation, if theres a more efficient workflow, or what. It basically felt like I drew the same thing 8 times, I feel like lining up highlights is probably more important than making things pretty on this level.

Pixel Art / Too Poor To Survive art
« on: February 01, 2011, 10:34:48 am »
I don't make very many posts here, but I thought I'd do a small art dump from a game I made over the weekend.

I did some updates to it since then (mostly performance improvements, some other tweaks) and you can play it here

But yeah, heres a dump. I didn't have much time to work on all of these, but I was fairly satisfied with the end result.

I'm not too pleased with the animations, they're very cheap, and not really that great, but I feel they work good enough for the game, and I've got another bigger project I've got to get to now  :blind:

Pixel Art / Mario Kart (As a Game & Watch Gallery "modern" game)
« on: March 30, 2010, 01:01:40 pm »
I don't know if any of you are familiar with the Game & Watch Gallery games, but they are collection of the older Game & Watch games, which were just LCD games, and usually have a modern version of the game too.

The idea I had was to turn Super Mario Kart into one of the modern versions of a G&WG game.

My understanding of the GBC's limitations are loose, but this should fit in one of them just fine, possibly with color tweaking. The MISS and numbers were lifted from Game & Watch Gallery 3

Left/Right would move the kart from one lane to another, one coin would be one point, if you hit a shell it'd be a miss.

C+C?

Pixel Art / [WIP] Minotaur

Still working on this, everything is still pretty blocky, sticking to 8 colors and this canvas size. I wanted to do something with greek mythology so I wound up with this old popular fellow.

I'm still playing with the colors, I've gone from reds to browns to greens to greys and back to reds again, they'll probably stay this way now that I've started the BG, but I'm open to suggestions. I'm also not too sure if I'll stick with the bottom segment of the BG. Either way, hoping the BG isn't so cluttered that the figure gets entirely lost.

Supposed to be walking towards the viewer, not sure if its entirely reading this way, chest area is still pretty messy (well the whole thing), i'll update this with more as I get it done.

edit: moved around some colors, started some detailwork on it, and I think I'm done for the night now.

Pixel Art / [WIP] 16x16 NES Portraits
« on: October 09, 2009, 10:41:12 pm »

Well it doesn't look so hot at 1x zoom, but someone was talking about NES tiles in an IRC room and I realized I haven't done any in a very long time. So I opened up YY-CHR and wasn't really sure what to go with so I took a hint from ptoing, and his portrait collections, except these are tiny and not symmetrical.  Eventually i want to fill up the whole page with them. Each one is 16x16, and a palette of 4 colors, and I'll be using 8 palettes total.

Some of these ar elooking pretty bad now so I'll have to go back and touch them up, and I'll update this as I get more batches done.

edit: I should note I'm using YY-CHR's NES Palette for this, which isn't the most accurate, but its one that has grown on me.

Pixel Art / Aquarium
« on: October 02, 2009, 09:30:03 am »
Hey some things are making me seek out a new place to post some pixel art, and this is something I've done recently, so I thought I'd post it: not sure if I should dump some of my better things or not.
Anyway, I made an aquarium of sorts in PHP:
the left column is hours, and the two on the right are the tens and ones of the minutes, its not meant to represent a clock or anything, just to be a sort of dynamic image.

Here is a link to all of the images together, its kind of large, so just using a link. Note that a lot of the left column was rushed. I did all of these, and the coding in a little over 3 hours, so I know they wont all be the best. I probably wont come back to fix the images up, but thought I should post something to introduce myself with.

If anyone is interested in the PHP script (its very simple) let me know and I'll zip it for you.

Pixel Art / female reaper
« on: July 03, 2007, 03:21:13 am »

Its for the he-she thing at pixeljoint. I took a few liberties on the design (such as skin) to try and make it abit more feminine.I probably overdithered it abit too, and the feet are sucking.

I'm having trouble on the angle of the scythe. I was sort of going for an over-the-shoulder thing but I totally muffed it up. I figured I'd post here because you guys are awesome at C+C and the like.

don't mind the overall sketchiness of parts, I just don't know where to take it.
