Thank you very much doctorcello! I don't know her (is an OC maybe?) but I sure liked her, especially her fire fist! :D

Fucking sweet man, ninjas for christmas what more can you ask for. Revenge of Shinobi was one of my favorites on the Genesis growing up so that was perfect

Thank you very much! :D

I fixed the abs (I think), I'l try to add some definition to his arms later. About the shadings, you were refering to abs & arms?

How would you defeminize his bottom legs? I have no clue.

The shoulders in theory are made of some kind of conjunctive tissue, like the one in the waist of Perfect Cell from Dragon Ball, with 2 blades on each one of them.

About the circles on his palms, there should not be problems since the main character attacks are big enough to hit him. I mean, if you were talking about box collisions, if you were talking about the visibility for the player, I'll add some visual effect as cue so it should be fine :)

What do you think about the outlines and inner lines thickness? Which one fits better?

Pixel Art / [C+C] [WIP] Final Boss for a NES-like platform game
« on: March 19, 2016, 01:19:47 am »
Hello,

This is what I'm working right now, it's the final boss of our game so I'd like to draw it as well as possible.

Just in case you clicked here by accident, I'll put the images under a spoiler tag ;)
This is (more or less) the stage in which the boss will appear. It's divided in two parts and the gravity changes in each one.

This is the current WIP. It's in pieces (hands, forearms, arms, chest, etc) so I removed the right arm to reveal the abs.
I know that the torso is maybe a bit too long, but I fear it needs to be like this so the monster fit the stage. He also has got 2 tails made with several circles and a spade, more or less like this one.

Sorry for using green as BG color but having as much grey skin as it has it would be better this way, if I'm wrong tell me and I'll change it to transparent.

-Don't pay too much attention to the outline's broken/dirty pixels on the horns, claws, etc. They still have to be cleaned.
-What do you think about the design? Do you like it? Any idea to improve it?
-And the pose, do you think it's ok?
-I never made a sprite this large, so I'm a bit lost in some areas. Should I draw the outlines with the same thickness as the rest of enemies (1 pixel) or maybe I should make it thicker (2 or 3 px, like I was testing in the claws)? Maybe thicker outlines and normal inner lines?
-Should I use dithering or not? I'm using a little bit on the purple conjunctions from its shoulders and lower body but I wonder if I should continue using it there or not. Or maybe I should use it also on other parts of te drawing?
-I'm really bad at drawing proper lighting, any help please? ^^U
-Anything else that you think could improve the enemy would be really welcome :)

I think while she is turning she should incline herself to the left and lower her center of gravity to keep her balance. Here's an example of what I mean (also I added an extra frame).

I was about to ask you to please break the sprite down when I noticed you updated the post, thank you very much for the info Kasumi, it's really interesting :D

It's amazing how the NES developers had to overcome all those difficulties and on top of that made such great games ^^U Are you programming a game for the real NES? That's amazing too! Could you share a link to the project? (I'm very bad at forums, so I'm not pretty sure how to find it).

P.S: The seventh color was an old mistake, thanks for pointing it XD

Ok, I'll try widening the body a bit later (right now I gotta go for a while), but I wanted to show a fast edit I made to fix the bounciness (now I'm wondering if it was a good idea or not)

Which one do you prefer? The left (bouncy) or the right one (not bouncy)?

Thank you all for the feedback and advice! :D

I dunno, I feel like he went from a king/knight to a sad/depressed child because he was in a dress-up play and his parents didn't come to watch him.
Haha, he is certainly not an emo child :) Well, at the very least he is not a child at all XD We want him to resemble some kind of inscrutable knight/alchemist, he even hasn't a name, we call him "the Potion Master" (he attacks throwing magic potions).

I've tried a rapid test using the reference kilenc posted (I tried to maintain the number of frames being 8 so I had to obviate some ones from the reference image):

Now I like the movement a lot more, it's still pretty rough and maybe a little bit bouncy but I think the feeling is pretty good, it seems much more natural than the old one, what do you think? :)

Hi, maybe you should be more specific about the kind of feedback you want. The idea of the game? The furniture used in the room? The colors? The size used for the sprites?

I like the idea for the game, and also the art, but about the furniture I must say it's a bit incoherent, I mean if there are padded walls to protect the inmate then there shouldn't be potentially dangerous objects, like a flower vase that can be used as a weapon or be broken to pieces to commit suicide.

I was going to recommend you to get some watch this movie to get inspiration http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073486/ but thinking about it if the asylum is set in 1940 maybe would be a better idea looking for "1940 mental asylum" in google images.

Why the decision to cover his whole head up with a hood?

Our dev team were unable to fully agree about his looks, so the only way we all got to be happy was by covering his head with that hood. Besides, he looked misterious that way and we liked it :)
