Pixel Art / Re: The Inn - [wip]
« on: February 14, 2009, 04:45:35 pm »
I looked at this topic from time to time, and it shows a great process.
Iīam usally not a big fan of iso stuff, mostly because its often to clean and consist of simple shapes.
But you have managed to put in some many little details and with good pixelart.

Its your duty to get this finished of course  ;)

Very nice.
Clever use of the restrictions to get this style, the blocky look has something.

Commercial Critique / Re: Commercial Critique - Star Ocean: Blue Sphere

Well I wouldnīt go so far to say it looks better than most GBA/DS games (atleast not from a technical point), but
the artist surely know what they were doing here. The tiling on the intro screens looks very good.

Its also interesting how many different view angles they used. Apart from "classic" topdown and isometric, there is also
another were the action is showed from the side (maybe I find a sreen of it).

Iīll rip the screenshots apart and post later a few things.

I personally think stuff like AA comes with practice and the experience you get out of it.
And AA is probably a bit hard to get with just a tutorial, even if ilkke explained it quit good.

If you have good shapes, you also have spend less time in AA.

This must be a gigantic joke. Reading his youtube profil I canīt imagine someone in his right mind can produce such
junk and talks in such big words about how great he is.

But these videos just made my day :y:

Where is the war?

I use Graphic gale for most things. I tried Promotion for while but canīt get really used to it.
PM is nice for a few things and has some relly helpful features.

But I am totally used to pick colors with the right mousebutton, speed up the workflow for me.
Or is there a way to get this in PM, and I am only to dumb to figure it out ???

Generally I donīt want to speak bad about people, but he is pretty (too?)confident about the things he do. Thats for sure.
Somehow amusing is his "autobiography", from the text you think he works for already 20 years in the industry.
And I am pretty sure he would benefit to work in a team.

I give him some respect for working as a one man "team", but to be honest his games looks like
generic trash.

Didnīt know that painter is that little-known, the airbrush statement is pretty vague.
Always someone says he work proffesional with ms paint something dies in me.

Pixel Art Feature Chest / Re: Savage World (artistic nudity)

I really enjoy looking at all the little details here. Very smooth overall, giving a nice painted look especially to the sky and the mountains.
Most things are allready mentioned by others, and yeah Helms latest edit shows a good direction.

But I would go with a slightly tilted look and to be honest, your current foreground tiles look very bland compared to the awesome
background. So a slightly more "organic" approach is needed in my oppinion.

And yeah, these huge GUIs remind me always of amiga and c64 games.

General Discussion / Re: has anyone heard of bobs game?
« on: January 08, 2009, 04:14:20 pm »
Wow, just wow.
Apart from the obvious mockering, the game donīt look to hot.
Other from the fact the game has apparantly millions of characters, I donīt really see why should it be groundbreaking as he
discribe it. Still a bit respect to him, if he worked really for the last 5 years alone on it.

Useless drama though.

The main character is quite cute, reminds me more of keneth fejer than cavestory though.
What I donīt like about him is his angry emotion. Any reason for that?

And no, your background donīt resemble a cave at all, even if you go for more abstract visuals.
Maybe draw a few tiles with cracks in it. And also the background needs something different than a bunch of squares.

Oh, I donīt think xbox live has any real restrictions, atleast not for "simple" 2d graphics.

keep it up.
