Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Coloured monster

It is better, but go a bit more "extreme" with the light source.

I also edited the colors a bit, giving it more contrast.

Great result :y:

Some neat stuff in there.
I especially like the variety in styles. Everyone used the same colors and had only a small canvas to work with,
but it still shows everyone has a different approach.

heh, looks like I was right by guessing tile 6.

@Zoggles
Thanks for taking your time, great compilation.

Lizzrd probably meant something like this.

I would also suggest to avoid so much noise.
Try to make bigger "clusters" of pixels and generalize a bit, think about a drawing a tree but not try to draw every individual leaf on it.

As I see you worked quite a while on it, why not call it done for now and work on something new.

That print looks totally awesome.

I say this collaboration is by far the most successful. And now I feel really lazy for only doing one tile :-[.
Well, there probably comes a next chance.

General Discussion / Re: pixelled sprites vs pre-rendered CGI sprites
« on: March 22, 2009, 06:25:15 pm »
I say booth have there advantages and disadvantages. If you have the time and the needed experience
pixelled sprites would probably always look better then there pre rendered counterpart.

It also depends on the resolution(=bigger sprites) the games run on, a 300x300 px sprite with 200+ frames can
become a nightmare for most artist ;). Also take into account the higher the resolution, the faults of rendered graphics get less obvious.

Pixel Art / Re: First Ditch Attempt

Yeah, is is inspired from a few other games. But I donīt see this as a big problem considering thats his first pixelart.
Seriously, Iīm pretty sure nearly everyone "copied" something for there first few pieces.

Generally speaking its not bad, but can surely improved. I donīt know if the purple shade edit works,
the blue one just makes more sense to me.

@Corinthian Baby
Yeah, thats also something i donīt get. No idea why a simple, detail less style is favored these days.
I believe 2D games have to look ~retro~ today , which basically means they look like pimped NES games.
