my suggestion then is to reduce the contrast between mid tone and highlight. that will help reduce the glossy effect

There, reduced contrast between mid tone and highlight. I made darker the highlight. If you noticed anything else go ahead!  :)
And thank you! :)

Well, you certainly captured the attitude well there, and the hood is a definite improvement.

You do have some problematic pixel clusters there. Helm and others discuss what kind of clusters are problematic over here, but to be specific:

* You have a number of pixels that are stranded (ie. there are no adjacent pixels of the same color). This generally comes across as visual noise.
* You have L-shaped clusters in your outline. L-shaped clusters are usually best avoided except on mechanical objects that you want to look angular -- they add 'chunkiness' to the area.

BTW, the transparency on your version is kind of messed up -- you seem to have a number of pixels with low opacity. These show up on the shoulder and the top of the hood. You also have some extra colors: there are 2 bright skin shades, 3 'mid' skin shades, and 2 'dark' skin shades (so you're using 7 colors even though it only looks like 3)

Well i used only 3 skin colors... it's true that i have some pixels with low opacity, that's because i had many different layers which some of the had low opacity.. And when i merged them all together it maybe caused all the above.(i am on learn stage of paint programs and i make these mistakes..)

About the clusters i am going to check it out! Thanks alot! :)

O! I tried and I tried, and I found one ^u^ (you know... for the sake of tearing things apart)
The hoodie looks like it's tucked into the waistline... where most people i know wear the hoodie over their pants. *shrugs* So there's that?

Hmmm i can't disagree :) What you say it's true. I just think he looks more badass and muscular this way.
Thanks anyway! :D

He looks a lot better in the edit. I'm trying to find anything else to call you out on, but It's great ^u^

Haha you are great!  :) I agree the last sprite looks better. If you think there is anything else to change at the sprite, not just the hood, go ahead :)

I actually like the use of dithering in this. It gives off a sort of retro gaming feel and (for whatever reason) I'm learning to like that :P
I also want to say THANK YOU for showing the steps in a gif. You just helped me learn a bit more about how to make rocky textures (which I really need to work on) :D

I think the only thing I would really like to see different is a slightly earthier tone to the dirt. I took out 15 points of green value in each of the earth tones, and I think the slightly redder version helps it look more appealing. My guess is because the redder tone contrasts better with the green grass. Just a thought.

You are welcome. I am proud to see that someone finds useful my own way of creating dem tiles!  ;D

Also, surely your colors look much better. :y: As i said before i have hard times picking colors.

Thanks friend!  :)

Overall I suggest to work on lightsource direction. The grass is lit mostly as if the light is on the left, but the stones are lit as if the light is on the right. The light -color- is pretty good -- it has that in-bright-sunshine look working for it.

I always think of dithering as a type of airbrushing. I definitely don't want to airbrush everything, it can look pretty unnatural. And when I do dither, it's one of the last steps I take, after I'm sure that I have the basic picture working well, to add the impression of additional shades where I feel they're needed.

Hahaha so true, now i realized that. I know of lightsource direction but i wasn't focusing on that so...DAMN i am bad!

Also your steps on dithering helped..i am new to this so i don't really know how i am going to use it. Thanks friend  :)

Don't worry about the no feedback thing.
There's 3 reasons I sometimes don't reply in a thread.
1- the work is too good and I have nothing to add
2- the work is so bad that I can't understand who to fix it
3- the suggestions I have are not immediate making it frustrating for the person to read

in your case is number 3. My only suggestion is to look a bit more into anatomy and how you can stylize it to fit a character like this. But its not something you can just do over lunch break. Anatomy takes time to understand and apply effectively. So don't be demotivated by the lack of replies. It doesn't mean people don't care. they might just not have the right thing to say to help.

I believe you should reply even if you think your post will be frustrating or hard to understand for the newbie artist. Logic yeah, but you never know if that noob reads every word of your post and make him much better artist.

Also i believe they don't reply to my posts because my art is too bad(your number 2)  :blind: Haha it's ok though!
