The character (both sprite and portrait).

I enjoy the sprite yet the portrait not so much. Maybe it's the lack of detail.
Something to help you about that character:
He is actually a virus. Because I couldn't think how a virus would look like I decided to make him look like an droid knight.

I am telling you this, because maybe you have any ideas of details to put at the portrait. Also how to improve it in general.

Better lighting and shading.

My thoughts exactly, yet at the second case that I shown above the one with gradient really beats the other one. Maybe, the other just needs improvement..

These are for a game I am working on. Don't forget to zoom in to see better the details.

So what I am asking is which style do you prefer. Above I have two different characters with different art style and below I have the same character with different art style.

If you choose the art style could you please tell me how to improve it?  :y: :y: :)

From the shadows in general in the image i understand that the sun comes from up and behind. So based on the elevation points add all the necessary shadows. I did very very quick edit just for you to see my point.
P.S. I forgot to put pointers to show where i putted the shadows :p, find them, i added two shadows.

Great work, it looks really cute! But i have a question.. I can't understand the logic behind the shadows. All the shadows's direction is to the right, that means that the light comes from the left. How that's works? I am not saying you do this the wrong way, maybe you do. I am just wondering.

so I made the level more spacious and changed the floor tile.
Also added some grass, and a rock...

I think this looks better...

Still needs some stuff in the ground to break up the "soil" texture, but space wise I think its an improvement.



Great work, surely an improvement. I really like the soil texture, looks so realistic. It's true though you need to add some stuff in it. Because just soil soil soil is boring to see. Depends to you for what to add. Also that you added grass makes everything prettier!

OK I made an edit, using your colors (I think I may have changed the jeans a bit, but it would be the same) and you can see how I made bigger shapes, and less texture on the vest and legs.
I think your sprite is fairly small to add detail such as wrinkles, so you'd be better off just doing the main volumes

You achieved spookynes, if that's what you wanted! About that mushroom, make it more it grows from the ground. They way you did it's like it fall from someone's basket. Also with this size of the character it would be better to make bigger levels. That level i see right now is for much smaller hero.
