I knew I had seen the top-right guy's weapon before and it's quite obvious that it's a modified Disel Electric Locomotive model 37.

The proof:

first WF game for Snake. Woohoo!

Odd seing people descussing this after being hush-hush for so long. Good to know the work is paying off.
I'm loving the retro poster (... though the rather disgruntled sir with the bandana has some issues with his trigger hand)

I reckon the vids are from the beta build?

Did some based on the ones we have now, this is just the top row, I'll look into the others later:

(BTW Panda, the rolleyes one is shown twise in your post.) - Fixed, thanks - Panda

Seems people took a liking to the poor AA. I was just playing around, but I guess if you want to keep it that way, sure. I made these to fit that "style", but I can rework them with some better AA if people feel this is what they want. Some are still a bit WIP, but I wanted to show the general style I intended to use first. Some will of course be animated.

I guess the emotes are in a somewhat tricky angle to AA, and the palette (taken from the originals) isn't the best suited for it, but I gave it a shot:

The middle one is the closest I've got so far, but it might require some extra tinkering.

Vikings out of context ftw.

Your houses look like they need some help with perspective, or generally showing their angle. Right now thay look a little flat. Quick test:

Of course that adds another colour, but using the current palette looked a little odd:

Tested making the trees darker as well. Also noticed that the gap on the top of the house is not dead centre. This could be because of tiling, but shouldn't be hard to fix, unless you ment it to be that way. I would also suggest experimenting with some sort of outline on the wings. I feel they don't match the rest of the character too well, but more importantly, they could get hard to see with shifting backgrounds.

That said, I like they way this is turning out. I'm getting some serious deijavou from those cactuses. Looks exactly like the ones I designed for a commertial a short while ago.

I've done some small jobs for this thing as well, looks like several indie freelancers have been contacted for the project. From what I've worked with, I get a slighty more classic feel than say, Neo contra. Rounded machines and pipes, more retro future, but not quite steampunk. But then, I guess the next press-releases will show wether this is the standard or not.

Balancing diffeculty is always tricky. I've played Contra 1 NES, Super C and Alienwars and the latter is the hardest so far. Since failure in shoot 'em ups are deaths rather than other penalties, it's more a question of how you're going to be attacked and to what level. Dodging bullets is not the same as timing jumps or getting stomped at by some huge monster. The norm on consoles is usually low diffeculty, or that deaths don't burn as bad. Of course, pleasing fans are another factor. Guess we'll see the result come deadline.

Just something quick. I've got too many projects going to make a large one. Maybe later.

Guess what game I just bought...

EDIT: Noticed the edges got AA'ed when I made it transparant. Pixed.

Just some random ones I put together. Might need a wee bit polish on the AA still.

Thank you guys.

Not as glorious a victory as I'd hope for, seing as the piece wasn't polished enough. However, now that I can edit the sky, I'm determined to make it into something worthy of that victory. My goal was to create better art, and winning means little if I didn't achieve that. It's been fun (and a nice lesson in time-management...) and I hope the people that participated got something good out of it as well.

Now that this is over, it means I can take care of something people have been asking about for a while...
