Pixel Art / Dark platformer mockup [WIP] [C+C]
« on: September 08, 2015, 09:55:21 pm »
Hey guys. Every now and again I'm doing a little work on this dark platformer project. Lately I've been trying to figure out the style and colors.

At present this mockup is very rough, but I'm primarily interested in thoughts on the colors at this point. I'm aiming for something somewhat realistic, and just slightly washed. Firstly I'd like thoughts on the sky and sea colors, which I've spent a fair bit of time tweaking already. The clouds initially had much higher contrast, but I've gradually brought them down and down. Perhaps too much?

I'm also interested in thoughts on the character colors. The main problem seems t be making them readable against spots of high contrast background. I'm trying to find a balance between making them clearly visible, but not so much that they don't feel like they fit into the scene. This isn't nearly so much of an issue with the female character, but the male is pretty tricky thanks to the fact that he is also meant to be dark and shadow-like.

Thanks!

Here is the latest, though I have cheated and blended in part f a screenshot from destiny just to expriment with the colors a bit, and translucent layers are cuasing strange artifacts and blurriness around the place. I think I am much happier with the colors and contrast, now, though. I'll be using the colors in this mess as a reference for the cleaned up piece.

Pixel Art / [WIP][C+C] Werewolf Boardroom Background

I'm working on this piece for use with various bits of promotional material for a game.

At the moment I'm a little unsure of how to handle the background. Below are two versions, the original, and one where I've added a layer to darken the background. At the moment this is just a translucent layer, hence all the extra colors in the background. I'm aiming to make the wolf the focus, have some depth, but also keep the lighting somewhat consistent. Here is the unfinished piece in an example use: http://joecreates.co.uk/werewolftycoon2/

I'm also considering adding rays through the window.

Pixel Art / [C+C][WIP] Skeleton Battle

Anatomy, gestures and composition are some of my weak points, so I'm using this piece to practice. No rendering yet. At the moment I'd mainly like feedback on the aforementioned qualities.

The warriors left leg seems wrong at the moment. I was intending for her to be standing more over the sparks, but now I think I need to move the light around the leg a bit. Other than that, I haven't really figured out what to do with the chest area. I put some leather straps there, but the whole area seems like it could do with reshaping before I start on any details.

Thanks!

Pixel Art / Master Keyblade

I tired mixing up Kingdom Hearts and Zelda. The feet are slightly bigger for the Kingdom Hearts style. Starting to notice some spots that can be tidied up a little, and I think the left foot needs some work. I'm going to have a play with the colors a little later, such as turning the saturation down a little. I ended up making the material hang in pretty sharp folds, though it might be better if it were more loose. I'm not so good at that, though. Keen to hear thoughts on other bits that can be improved. Thanks :)

Pixel Art / Frog Temple Platformer

Hey guys. Here's a work in progress for a game. I've been asked to use dark outlines in the style and to give it a bit of a cartoony look. I'm hoping to underlight the platforms with light from the lava at the bottoms, though this is proving to be pretty tricky. Would like some thoughts on color, especially with the lava, which is still rough, but I'd like to try to get the color on that right before trying to animate it. I'll upload progress, but any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

And here's the character animated.

Pixel Art / Dragon [C+C] Textures, color and form
« on: December 30, 2014, 01:56:38 am »

There's an odd pixel here and there that could be fixed, but I mainly want some thoughts on how to give the dragon more texture. So far I've added some scaley bits, but I'm sure there's probably more I could do to improve them.

I'm also looking for critique on form and color. Also, the shadow is rough right now, but I don't really know how to even approach making it accurate.

Thanks!

Pixel Art / Night Park Scene Cohesion [WIP] [C+C]
« on: October 23, 2014, 02:36:42 am »
I'm looking for advice on this WIP game scene. Due to translucent layers there are way too many colors in this, but I'm just trying to get things to work together and look part of the same scene. I think its probably the colors that I'm least happy with. Maybe I need to reduce brightness on background layer stuff? Any advice on how to get things working together a bit better would be much appreciated!
