General Discussion / Re: Pixel-Gameart Appreciation Thread

Game: Final Fantasy Tactics
Release Year: 1997
Platform: Playstation

I have a strange relationship with FFT, I've tried playing it many times but never got used to the camera, it always felt awkward (even though I've played a lot of Disgaea and jeanne d'arc).

FFT is a great game but I think what really draws my interest the most is akihiko yoshida's art, that's one of those times that I realize the gargantuous gap of skill.
The characters have a very narrow palette of skin/ground tones and even the colorful details have a touch of sepia to it as well, combine that with a huge forehead and not having a nose (lots of free space). Normally you'd think that those parameters would lead to a very boring piece but not in this case.
I think this is a prime example of knowing exactly what emotions you want and how to convey them on your piece.

Pixel Art / Re: Anatomy Practice
« on: December 30, 2016, 04:21:54 pm »
the pixel art itself is ok, but it is clear that in order to improve you need to study more anatomy on paper first.
expanding a bit on what Achrileg said, start building a reference folder. Once you have your references start drawing them over and over, start with parts of the anatomy(eyes, legs, arms, chest...) because if you start your study drawing the whole body right off the bat you'll have a hard time learning all the nuances of each part.

If your intentions are to use in fighting scenarios I'd suggest working on their poses, right now they feel more like point 'n click characters.

Pixel Art / Re: Crystals
« on: December 19, 2016, 09:20:04 pm »
they're really nice! tbh I clicked the thread expecting that common pixel art crystal, you know, a lot of light blue and big white highlights..

yours is great, they have that nice refraction inside (which is a hard thing to do), good lights (expect for the first one imo), nice colors, nice shapes. I'd say something about the few curved lines it has but I don't think they are a problem.. if you're still experimenting then maybe you can try using well defined straight lines, I believe it'll give a more human-refined look to the crystal (if that's what you're going for)  :y:
(saving this image because I clearly need to step up my crystal game)

Pixel Art / Re: my first Character - Walk Animation
« on: November 24, 2016, 07:30:22 pm »
you need to have vertical movement as well, specially in this case since men doesn't walk with the hips that much. The leg movement is a bit "snappy", maybe you could try to give it a little rhythm
I think this gif could help you. (source: @saint11)

Yeah, when you take off the hand it looks like everything is in order.

just a little repositioning kinda solved the problem.
the original placement feels off when you try to guess the position of the arm.
you can also add an extra highlight [like in this edit] as a way to help the viewer visualize it.

that's a really good improvement overall! I think you can use silhouette of trees to fill up some space of the background, maybe a dull grayish green. good job!  :y:
