Pixel Art / Re: [Color] Establishing an eerie sunset environment
« on: October 04, 2014, 03:33:09 pm »
I think you've got a pretty good "golden hour" feel going here, although I can't say whether or not it feels autumnal to me. One thing that bothers me are the purple accent tiles. Try adding a semi-transparent layer of red or orange over the tiles, and work from there. To keep it consistent, you probably want to think more in terms of relative color. You can create the illusion of purple by using a muted red, or something like that, just like how your muted bluish grays in the shadows appear very blue against the orange and red tones. I've done a quick edit on your photo, to give you an idea of what I mean:

Pixel Art / Re: Background and foreground

Your background and foreground bricks both have a similar amount of contrast and detail- try turning down the level of detail, saturation, value, and contrast on your background layers, and maybe experiment with thicker outlines around your foreground and/or most important sprites (in terms of gameplay.) I actually wrote an article about this a while back that might be helpful to you. :)

Not a bad start at all. I think what's giving the impression of shuffling rather than walking is the stiffness of the feet. Try to give the feet a bit more bend on contact, perhaps. The timing of the head movement might be a little off, but I'm not sure. A little squash and stretch and some movement on the skirt would give it a better sense of solidity as well.
