Pixel Art / Mythical Figurines
« on: July 13, 2008, 04:23:35 pm »
New private pixel project, just for fun! I am going to pixel several creatures from Nordic Mythology (and Swedish in particular) as figurines. Might do some other cultures' creatures too if I still feel like it. I am also trying out a new pixel technique here: drawing a sketch on paper, scanning, and pixelling ontop of it. So here goes the first figurine in project, and the sketches to the other ones that are planned so far.

First up: Sjöjungfru (a.k.a. Mermaid, yes, I like mermaids...)

The hand holding the comb is completely wonky. Help? Not entirely sure about the colour of the tail either. Look ok?

Forest sprite and guardian in the shape of a beautiful woman with long hair. Her back is hollow like an old tree trunk, and she has a tail. If treated kindly, and if no mentions of her inhuman features are made, she might help the people she meets in the forest. By blowing into the pipe of their rifles to grant them luck with hunting, or by telling them where good spots for fishing might be found. She might also help colliers by waking them should anything happen.

A tragic, but beautiful young male creature (emo?) who sits in the strean playing on his violin. Eternally damned to be without love. He lures people into the stream to drown them. He might teach people to play the violin as amazing as himself in exchange for a sacrifice or their soul. But if they play one of his special polska (dance) too long, they can no longer stop and everyone present will dance themselves into the water and to death, unless someone manages to cut the strings of the violin.

Might be referred to as elves, but are not quite the same thing. These sprites live in the forest and can be seen dancing etherally in big circles. Barely touching the ground. They are very pale, and sometimes they just appear as mist. A human who comes upon them can be lured to join them, or given diseases as punishment. The day after their dances one can find a circle of unnaturally green grass, no grass, or mushrooms where it took place. This is called an elf circle (in Swedish: älvring).

A small sprite that lives together with humans (on farms). They help take care of animals and get along with us as long as we respect them and take well care of the farm.

A sort of sprite that also lives together with humans, although they don't interfer with us unless we do them harm, or a favor. If we harm them (wittingly or not) they can punish us by burning down our dwellings, causing sickness, etc. If we help them when in need they can reward us with amazing gifts.

Pixel Art / Pokémon Trainer Mirre
« on: May 24, 2007, 11:24:08 pm »

I've been playing alot of Pokémon Diamond lately. So, I was inspired to make a sprite of myself as a trainer! I'm gonna catch 'em all!

Here are the references I worked from (actual sprites ripped from Diamond/Pearl): No need to crit this, but feel free to do so if you like. I'm pretty sure I won't change much though.

Pixel Art Feature Chest / Feature 03 - Mermaid
« on: October 28, 2006, 01:06:51 am »
Been working on this for some days now. I just couldn't stop when I started it. I've even been seeing pixels and thinking about dithering when watching TV in the breaks I've had when cooking and eating stuff and so on

I can say that I have already learnt lots by doing this piece, especially the tree and the water was killing me. Please give me some C&C. I always appreciate that. Hope you guys will like it! Oh, and do think it'd look good with a frame of some sort around it? Perhaps with shells, kelp and fishbones or something.

24 colours:

Pixel Art / Go! Tingle! Go!

I loveded these characters from The Legend of Zelda series. Awesome character designs, hehe. So I had to pixel them. They're my favourites next to Link and Ezlo after all. It's 23 colours + transparency (added when finished).

I need some overall C&C obviously, and also some advice to if I should add a white outline and if I should keep the sparkles/konfetti. Hope ya'all like!

Pixel Art / Dreaming in Pixels W.I.P.
« on: January 26, 2006, 04:25:44 pm »
My submission for the Dreaming in Pixels contest. It's not finished yet (as you can see on trees and the cliffs/mini islands in the front). But since I will be going away over the weekend I would like as much C&C on what I have done so far, as possible so that I can finish this in time when I get back. I have done quite alot on this so I think it won't be that hard to give me your opinions anyways. I am also wondering wether I should give it more contrast or keep it this way? It might come out too dark is what I'm thinking. There's also a stray colour somewhere that I can't find (and believe me... I have been searching). It says 29 colours in GG, but I only have 28 in the palette.
It looks better on a dark background.

Pixel Art / KOS '06 sprite (updated jan 15 x2)

Hi I'm new on this board. Some people may recognize me from Pixelation, Pixel Academy, Pixelerate, Pixel Joint, etc.

This is the first fighter sprite I've ever done, so don't be too hard on me, haha. She will look more fighter-ish when I finish the animation. She's going to swing the key, move her legs, wiggle her tail, make gestures and stuff.

But for now, the base. (It's my alter ego btw.)
16 colours, C&C is very welcome.
