@indigo: loving the colors on that portrait

Needed a font for a project so thought I'd give creating one a go.

Still need to take care of kerning

Thanks for the comments!

I chose a molotov, not very original nor something you would find in an office, but it gives me the opportunity to do some nice lightning.
However, it's turning out to be hell shading wise, been working on it for the past two days, starting and starting over, and finally, i feel im on the right track. Obviously still very wipish

Behold~

Let me know what you think

Welcome to the forum Bohne, your lurking obviously paid off as these are both wonderfull first entries.

Crits and suggestions:
- Walking: The black inner lining of the top of the hat doesn't work. Depending on what style you're goning for iether replace it with a highlight or get rid of it all together and increase contrast between top and base. Some of the features don't read too well. Beard is hardly visible and shirt/pants blend a bit. I suggest bigger contrast or some kind of lining. There's a lot of pixels jump around, but it might be your animation program fucking it up?

Treechopping: I can't say i've done a lot of woodchopping myself, but i'd imagine your feet don't move at all? It looks kinda jumpy as it is, but fixing legs might help alot, so i refrain from commenting further on the anim. The detail on the tree looks rather copy-pasted, i suggest you mix it up a bit.

Pixel Art / Bad day at the office - Generic zombie mockup [wip] - update

Here goes:

1. draft - 2. draft

-

Thought I'd get some input before i start shading away.

c&c appreciated, espec. on anatomy + i'm trying to figure out what kind of weapon the guy should have, but i can't come up with anything remotely original, so yeah, if you have an idea let me hear.

my advice would be to go back to pencil and paper and try out following some templates.

pixels are my pencils and paper.  I don't practise any other art forms (except the odd doodle in my maths books) so what would be the point in trying to draw a face with a pencil.  I'd make all the same mistakes i have when i pixel.

Well, paper is just quicker. You could've made like 10 sketches playing around with different approaches in the same time you've pixeled this. Not that I'm to talk, since i tend to do the same thing, still i wish i could pull my self together to do more pencil stuff tho.

Anyhow, I think the new draft is way better than the old ones, seems like a good idea to start over. Minor crit - The distance between nose and mouth is still to great i think.

Thx for the crit

Final version?

+ A new piece

I learned alot doing this, and i thought I'd stay on track by pushing myself a little bit further. I've never done a female face so behold, i give you generic smiling woman for you to c&c on:

hmm.. been looking at for a while, initially i didn't care for it, but on second thought I think i like the idea. Still kinda ambivalent about it though, since ii don't like is the fact that it adds a lot of colors to bg. that imo looks "busy" enough as it is. Water tiles are a bitch, but i think you did a good job. I minor crit - i think there's too big a difference in alphavalues, some parts you can barely see through while others are fairly opaque. I suggest you bring em a bit closer together, dunno, mayby it's just me.
Anyhow, thanks for keeping this post flooded with top pixel art, it's a goldmine  :y:

Thanks for the crits

How's this:

Mainly tried to address the lightening issue. Thanks for the references Lawrene... next time I'll go find some before i start- pretty muh had to redo the facial shading sine the lightning was so off. And yea helm - prob. not the best idea to use a lightsource like this.

Did some ISO recently for a commercial project i unfortunately had to quit. Might as well show it here:

They're all made up of three parts. The middle part can be left out or tiled to make different sizes.
I have some more, but they're still pretty wip'ish. If i can summon the energy to do so, i'll finish 'em and post

Thanks for the critique

How is this:

Tried addressing issues on nose, eyes and lightning. Played around with the colors too, but not sure if it's an improvement.

Always sucked at anatomy and therefore rarely tried to pixel anything remotely human.
In order to change this, I'm trying to force myself to draw more pencil stuff and I'm getting better, though there's still a long way to go. Even so, I thought I'd give a somewhat realistic avatar a go. Behold ~

old - new - newest - final?

I've tried to push myself as much as possible, now push me further  :)

iso from commercial project i had to quit

Aaand, to push my self a bit further, first closeup female head:
