Pixel Art / [Feedback] Hearthstead - farming/town life Simulation RPG
« on: August 04, 2019, 02:53:57 pm »
Hi everyone! This is the Hearthstead art thread. I'm looking for constructive feedback and help with making my game look as good as possible!

There is a devlog @ TIGForums covering all aspects of dev, so I'll keep this one focused on posting art updates and receiving feedback to improve the assets of the game.

Overview

Hearthstead is a farming/town life Simulation RPG set in a fantasy world developed by myself, with help from my brother. We're using Unity to implement the game and are currently working on a v0.1 build. For more specifics about the game feel free to check the devlog or follow us on Twitter.

Art for feedback

Test walk cycle in four directions:

Some tiles and sprites for our first prototype

Someone on imgur mentioned that the graphics are too similar to Stardew Valley. While Stardew is one of the inspirations I see plenty of differences when shown side by side. What do you think?

I appreciate all constructive feedback, I just want the game to look as good as possible and improve my skills!

Thank you so much for your time <3 See you around!

Pixel Art / Re: Mockup for a personal project.

These have a lot of personality and I love the look of everything. I was going to suggest upping the contrast and adding darker tiles around the maps but Curly already made a good edit to show that!

More info about the project? It looks like something I'd love to play :P

See you around!

Pixel Art / Crayon no Senshi Angel Mamiko
« on: July 28, 2019, 07:50:12 pm »
Greetings!

It's been oh so long since I posted here. Here's my latest pixel piece: Crayon no Senshi Angel Mamiko.
I made this piece originally for the july 26 Pixel Dailies challenge but as I was working it started to get a life of its own and now I'm developing this character for my current gamedev project.

The piece is 240px x 240px and uses 57 colors.

I'm not 100% satisfied with it, but it's good enough, and I wanted to wrap it as I already had dedicated almost 8 hours to it. There's an animated version which loses some detail and a progress gif too:

I consider the piece done but feedback is appreciated as always, I can always revisit and learn from this piece :)

See you all around.

Pixel Art / Operation Hardcore Character portraits - Looking for C+C
« on: April 11, 2016, 11:41:28 pm »
Hey Pixelation! It's been a while since I posted anything here!

I'm currently working on a game called Operation Hardcore (http://store.steampowered.com/app/395550/ @ Steam, and the website is www.operationhardcore.com) and I'm one half of the team behind the game, working mostly on art assets and some other tasks. I am currently working on portrait art of the characters for use in the introduction cinematic. I made one portrait for each of the four characters and I'm really interested in getting some feedback from the community over here. All kinds of C+C are welcome and I'll be sure to make edits based on every useful comment or critique I get :)

After several hours and many tweaks, I can say that I'm overall satisfied with them, but there are a couple of things I'm not sure I like 100% and are bothering me:
- The shading/shape of the cowboy hat in Country's portrait.
- The hair texture for Brother's hair.
- The shading/folds of the fabric in Road Rash and Country.

Also, the anatomy of the characters is cartoonish/comic book like, so it's not aiming to be very realistic, but any anatomy advice is welcome too! I might have some glaring mistakes that I don't notice.

Here are the portraits:

Well, that's it, really looking forward to hearing your input on this! Thanks!

See you around!

General Discussion / Re: PAST Pixels - Who made these?
« on: June 24, 2012, 12:43:02 pm »
Yes, Ndeal is definitely ringing a bell, I think that might be it :) Also this guy says he used his style: http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/2305.htm sounds about right!

edit: Google confirms it: http://ndeal.deviantart.com/gallery/

Also I remember this being animated:

Pity you don't have that copy :(

Those were made by Adam Tierney, aka Sals. So many old favorites here! :D I should pixel once again.

General Discussion / 72 Hour GDC entries
« on: April 23, 2012, 04:13:45 pm »
Greetings everyone, long time no post (although I've kept lurkin' around just to browse the eye-candy).

I'm writing this to ask all members of the community, especially the old ones, about the entries for the 72 Hour GDCs that were held several few years ago.

The reason is that I lost the back ups of my games and I'd certainly like to have them in my archives. Doing some internet archaeology via Google, I managed to find one of the three projects I worked on. I'm still trying to find two of them, called "Frooty Booty" and "Treasure Cove".

Any help is extremely appreciated,

Keops

Hello there guys

I wanted to ask if any of you know about a good place to post about a game dev project to look for programmers/coders. I was about to post it in the Employment section but then I realized that we're not really looking for additional artists (yet) but for coders. So if any of you know about a good place for this, please, let me know.

Thanks in advance for the help!

~Keops

PS: I think it's okay if I post it in the Off-topic thread too, but I want to hear input from the community and/or mods first. If this is OK maybe I'll post it here too.

Best wishes for everyone, happy new year 2007 for those celebrating it today!

As for resolutions:

- Begin my masters degree program and strive to do the best
- Get to learn 3D (finally)
- Finish at least one of my many game dev projects
- (MAYBE) research more about and/or start my own game studio/workshop/company/whatchamacallit
- Get in shape
- Be more friendly
- Be more organized

That's it. Not too difficult, just need to keep reminding me of those and I'll be fine

Good luck everyone! Happy new year once again.
