Pixel Art Feature Chest / Re: [WIP][C+C] Chicken
« on: August 29, 2014, 02:11:44 am »
It's never actually going to become a game due to my easily getting bored of large projects; the closest it could get is probably the mockup

Too bad, there is definitely serious opportunities & money for people with skills & passion !
I'd pay for a complete game with such graphics animated.
Making things you love + making money with it, it's interesting I think =)

You've got some skills, this is some nice pixel art. I'd love to see this animated.
I also like the plot & the overall idea, even if RPG are really overdone in my opinion compared to some other genres.

This is absolutely breathtaking. Thank you Dan.
It opens a lot of possibilities.

Right now I'm playing with Retro Dither, a color palette / dithering plugin for After Effects.

It could really help for those of us who are familiar with After Effects. It would be very easy
to make pixel art ocean, windy trees, or any too complex / subpixel effect with this.

I'm sorry, I wanted to finish this so bad, but I have a plane to take for Montréal in a few hours (then Boston & NYC woohoo).
I won't have a computer there, so I give you the unfinished work right now.
I made this because I fell in love with your style & color.

I guess you can have a good idea of how awesome your game will be with everything animated & parallaxed.
Take care about banding (I didn't correct it).
Here is the PSD with all the frames. If you want to reuse the dog, feel free !

It seems like a very nice piece of software !
Some kind of video tour / tutorial would be great to jump quickly into it.

I don't want to steal the topic  :-[
I will show things in the appropriate topic of the secret section. Not yet though, because we're still figuring out a lot and many aspects of the graphics are not working yet (parallax, crowd, aerial car traffic simulation, rain simulation, etc), and I want maximum impact of everything I show. What will be interesting is not the individual particular technologies but the overall picture. The combined result should be a lot greater than sum of its parts, just like I learned while directing videos & visual effects.

It is 100% possible ingame, and the proof is that we're actually doing it ourself for our game. And guess what, it's even far better than that.
I mean neon reflections on the puddles, cars lighting the buildings when passing by, huge ads screens that actually light the surrounding correctly, etc… I agree it requires a fair bit of care, effort, & attention, but the end result is totally worth it to me, it can really make people go from "cool" to "AWESOME TAKE MY MONEY". And this is what we want, as game developers, I guess ? A better quality and a great selling point ?

However for a true dynamic solution, and not just static lights, you need some kind of normal mapping specially tailored for a pixel art render. The only public solution right now, if you don't code your own, is to use SpriteLamp.

2 hours on Photoshop today. Trying to emulate Craig Mullins' style & workflow. Almost no layers, no FX, pure brush strokes.

Yes the script is now loading on every page. It should be restricted to wayofthepixel.

Killer stuff. Really shows that prerendered stuff is totally viable today despite what everybody thinks in the industry.
