General Discussion / Re: Replacing pixel art
« on: November 13, 2014, 03:57:56 pm »
It's actually very simple to 3D render to pixel art. Almost no shading / lighting, readable shapes, no shape smaller than 1 px on the scene, and it just simply works.

Not a lot of people are commenting, but I'm sure everybody here is captivated by your work.
You have my full support. The cinematic camera is sexy as hell and to me, you have the best control feeling / art direction of all the upcoming space shooters like Star Citizen / Elite etc. I'm really looking forward the finished game.

Pixel Art Feature Chest / Re: Light Cavalry

I'm fascinated by how relentless you are when it comes to training. You're such a hard worker.
And at the same time, you still make very very basic mistakes that are so easy to see.

First : your body is totally distorted, especially the abs, while considering the pose, he should be very straight.

Second  : Your abs are far too much on the right, as if the character was 70° rotation (90° = profile).
But you character is more at a 30/40° angle.

Proposed correction.
Your left leg is too far on the back, and its muscles should have a lot of tension given they have all the weight on them.

Final before / after

Really impressive. It doesn't even look like pixel art actually.

Yes the legs have been bothering me since the beginning. Night's edit is totally on point.

You can do it with After Effects, using plugins like this :

Same. You can't transform any image into pixel art, otherwise it just looks like a threshold filter…
Your image is too high resolution, has anti-aliasing, gradients are too smooths instead of a clever patterns, etc…

Another try, it looks a bit cleaner but not very blended.

Wow the vertical dithering is really interesting, clever idea.

Pixel Art / Re: Army Barack - How to improve it?

With all those black outlines, I find it hard to read what are the objects, where you can walk, etc.
I think it's important to separate the ground from the objects you can actually collide with.
