Pixel Art / Cuphead on Master System
« on: November 04, 2017, 03:39:44 pm »
I made a mock-up of what a Cuphead Master System game might look like!

I'm nowhere near as familiar with the MS's limitations as I am with the NES's. As far as I know it can use one 16 colour palette (inc. one transparency) for all sprites, and one 16 colour palette for all backgrounds tiles. I used the MS master palette, and hopefully got the resolution of 256 x 192 right. Man, the Master System Palette isnt flexible! A lot of the colours are very similar, and then there's huge leaps between values. Found myself not having the colour I wanted a bunch of times.  I was also careful to leave lots of duplicate tiles in the image, I read that the MS does have some limit on how many unique tiles can be onscreen at once, like the NES.

So yeah, apart from the ridiculous amount of sprites on-screen here, I think this is within the hardware's ability? Maybe if Kasumi is around he'll tell me.

General Discussion / Pro Motion tile tools
« on: August 22, 2014, 11:54:19 pm »
Ive been making lots of tiles in GG for my game, and ive heard that Pro Motion is the way forward with that. I was wondering if anyone who uses Pro Motion could tell me the nifty tricks it has with regards to tiles? One thing i was wondering in particular was whether it can separate a full image into tiles, and perhaps even reduce it down to unique tiles.

General Discussion / Making a pixel art movie
« on: October 01, 2012, 07:23:28 pm »
I made a 1000+ frame, 60fps pixel art animation in graphics gale a month ago, but i cant get a final movie file out of it. saving as an avi does weird horrible things with the colours, and im not sure avi is a great compression type for keeping the lineart clear anyway. saving as a gif doesnt seem to be an option as i cant get the frame rate high enough with gifs. I could export all the frames as an image sequence, put them into another program and make a film that way, but im not sure what program to use that would let me keep the 60fps and also uses a pixel-art friendly compression.

do any of you guys know what i could do?

Pixel Art / MeltedRubberWellyHead [WIP]
« on: September 17, 2012, 07:21:20 pm »
Hi guys, i was making a large pixel art mutant, he's called meltedrubberwellyhead. Ive not been doing this pixel lark long, a couple of months, and id love to have a bit of C+C about this pic as i just want to get better.

i did a very very basic sketch first and scanned that into my pc. its the first time ive tried that, but i definitely think ill be using a similar approach for larger pixel art in the future!
