Pixel Art / Re: hella bored

The first thing that comes to mind every time I look at that background is: 'pretty.' There's no other way to really describe it. Its quite stylish and colorful (and so are the sprites of course.) However it's somewhat hard to 'read' or distinguish. But, it *does* make the sprites stand out alot so I suppose it in fact, works quite well.

Such beautiful color, and finely tweaked AA. The lips seem a bit over-outlined as opposed to the rest of the features however. Helm's edit is quite nice, however the lips seem overly realistic  compared to the rest of the piece (or perhaps its just the contrast?)

Very nice work Adarias. You've done *quite* alot with your project; it's nice a 'pretty-pixel' game that's actually getting somewhere. I particularly love those sword sketches you did, brilliant designs. I'm glad you're using colored shadows in your game too, they much better than standard transparent black/gray. For your shop/weapon's background dilemma, perhaps you could go the baldur's gate route and use a paper/scroll like background (pixeled of course, with the weapons being just a pixeled sketch?) Anyways I can't wait to see more, good luck with Partisian Tactics.

UPDATED

NEW:

Battle Mockup:
Top right mockup is a WIP of battles. I have yet to make reverse direction of units (whom would be situated at the bottom corner of the battle field)

-Red orb represents enemy leader, blue represents player leader
-HP/SP unit box is toggable (hit a key and it disappers/reappears)
-HP meters are also toggable (will toggle HP/SP/Both/None, adjustable in options and via hotkeys)

Map Mockup
-player armies are golden, enemy are silver (didn't make silver ones yet)
-brown square things are framland
-gray rock formation should probably have some grass tuffs on it
-castle and towns need cast shadows

General
-tried contrasting units more, however its hard to adjust them further without wrecking them (feel free to EDIT[/b] if you've got a better idea/explaination)
-removing the outlines makes the units very hard to read, played with it for a about 1.5hrs...really didn't like the results, units are supposed to be cartoony to a degree (I am still willing to edit the style if people really dislike it)

About the eyes, the left set stands out alot more, but gives a very cute/cartoony look the characters, the right looks more blended/darker, and gives a slightly more realistic/detailed look. I think the right set would match your game better.

The black helmet on the bottom right sprite reminds me of a gas-mask, I'm assuming its supposed to be an metal helmet?

I second the notion to move 'tactics' and 'battles' onto one side (probably to the right side). It does look clickable as is. I will say the title screen is very good though, I love the emblem, and blue = awesomeness. Add some purple in there to = more awesomeness.

Your game is looking to be pretty sweet; the rock palette, in particular, is very intriging to me. It's good to Fil_Razorback finally got someone to work with hehe. Good luck with your project.

Quite dynamic, hope to see this sucker finished =3. It's face is looking really cool already.

Those sprites are pretty cool. Nice and simple, good colors too. I think they could benefit from some anti-aliasing though, just an opinion though. Hmm the chick on the bottom, might look better if you extended her head <way and/or > way 1 or two pixels (right now seems kinda like an egg shape, which is odd given the chibi proportions).

Yay for dwarves! I like the overall design of the dwarf, however his helmet and beard seem underdetailed. Compare his beard to the orc's hair, the difference in shading should be apparent I hope. The helmet's shading seems kindof bland, I like the shape and palette, bu the actual shading is bugging me alot. Perhaps adding a metalic shine (light/dark contrasted thing) might help.

Thankies pawige, your walk flows alot better and smoother than mine. I'll be studying it for a bit now.

Pawige, I've tried everything I could with the 'south' walk. You're more than welcome to edit it. You are right about the west swing, I'm trying to fix that right now. The sword looked so short because I over did the perspective >_<. I can't think up an excuse for the low swing angle though so *tweak!*
