I really like how this is coming out, but I like the old legs better...

Oh well, it's a sexy piece of pixel-work either way, can't wait to see it finished <3

I tend to do my coloring in bits before the lineart is complete.  I know it's not really the best way to do it, but I'm just not very good at shaping things when it's all pure lineart...

still, this is pretty sad--I have nothing against sprite edits, that's how I originally got into pixeling, and I feel like it's a valid place to start, but you gotta indicate your original source.

It's all a matter of taste, I guess.  ;D
I personally would have gone for a less cellshaded look for the skin as well.

I made an edit as well, hope you don't mind:

I fiddled with the colors a bit and added one extra color for the skin. (The seemingly "extra" blue was already in your piece, but not in the palette to the side.)
I also tried to make the collar and bracelets more colorful and shiny.

I like the added shine on the jewlery in this edit, but the skin's shading looks to me like it needs AA...

As far as the original, I'm not really a huge fan of the colors either...I can kinda see where you were going with it, but I like the more tanned skin tone better for sure...

The lineart looks really cool, but the coloring looks a bit off--don't know enough about color theory to really say what exactly is bugging me, though...

I'd like to start by saying that I love those boots <3

As far as crits--definitely too many skin colors, I can't see the difference between most of them unless I zoom waaaaaaay in.  Either increase the contrast or just boot some of the in-between colors.

@Helm:  awesome as always, but there're some weird things going on with that edit--the grey on the shiny skin spots doesn't fit well, and the block of dark blue in the hair doesn't fit either...

I'm gonna have to agree, the first one looks better

I like it.  My only real crit is that the beard's top outline seems to disappear right when the beard passes under the nose...that seems kinda backwards to me; it seems like the nose would cast a shadow on the beard and make it darker, so I don't know why it gets lighter under the nose...

Other than that, I like the color choice, especially for the hair, and very stylin' pants lol

One thing I think a lot of the guys on this forum seem to forget is that the reason the sprites are pillowshaded is because in an actual game it'd greatly increase the number of sprites required to keep a consistent lightsource, from a production standpoint pillowshading makes a lot more sense...

In the colored version there's too much contrast between the darkest skin tone and the rest of the piece.  I'd recommend darkening the second-darkest skin tone to make everything come together a little better.

I like the pants, actually <3
