Thanks Chris. This was very useful color-wise.

Trying to reboot my coloring, but stumbling over.

To be honest, I posted a wrong photo of the car. Well, not wrong. It was mean to illustrate the shapes, not the light source. But you did a great job pixeling that specific light source. Only, it confused me a bit as my light source is sorta center-top. Well, my fault. Basically, I'm trying to replicate this light source:

Do you have the thrust animated? I'm not sure sure about it. It feels like a candle light. I think it should be more "afterburner" like.

Talking here specifically about shape, not color.

Beside that, I like the shape you designed, and especially your color choices.

Missed this project earlier. Excellent concept. Looking forward to follow the development.

Hrm....dude, nobody deserves anything in life.

When there is not replies, maybe there isn't anything educative to criticize on your work, or people are simply busy. Just keep trying.

I personally love the first grass tile, but I think you need to make few more patterns, because inside the map repetition is quite obvious. Rock tile could use a reboot. All rocks inside the tile have same color edges, independent of light source. That is wrong. Try not to think of this tile as a lump of rocks, but as a rocky-texture.

Also, shadow under the rock mustn't be grey, as it is casting shadow on green surface. Make it dark green.

Try this kiwinuptuo tutorial on textures: http://kiwinuptuo.deviantart.com/#/d3d4ufx

Really awesome.

When stuck with an object, always look for reference, whether real objects, drawings or pixel art:

Working on a 3rd model, Dacia Duster.

Refrences:

Can't seem to get it right. Uh, would love to see an edit, on either model 2 or 3, by someone more proficient.

Hrm...just noticed Spuds Quest. The original version was released some 5 years ago for the PC as freeware and I reviewed it for Reloaded.org: http://www.reloaded.org/download/Spuds-Quest/362/

Glad to hear it's going to be reborn, although I would prefer the developer mentioned this first version on the Kickstarter page, as much of the work is reused.

Awesome background and work on the armor.

Anyway, ...

He is in a swamp? For a minute it looked like it was frozen, but the shimmering in the front says otherwise. Is it a defrosting swamp? I'm just getting confusing messages about that part, partly due the colors partly due some details. Not sure something needs to be done about that. Just letting my thoughts flow.

The position of the wounded leg seems awkward to me (maybe I'm reading wrong the position of knee on the left leg), as well as the two left-most fingers (to the viewer) on his right hand. It seems like the whole bottom-left part of the works needs to be re-thought.

Thanks for your suggestions. Very useful. Already continued working on it before your post, and quite some of your suggestions I implementing before reading your post. Out of some other changes you did not mention, I increased the height by one pixel, because a lot of stuff is going on the top of the car and I needed more space there. That is also the case in the original as well.

Anyway, ...

New (still WIP, but close to it):

Still the part above tires is bothering me. Would I ask too much if I would ask your edit only of that specific detail (above the car)?
Yeah, I think that reference image is computer rendered.

Anyway, the new model side by side the first model:

Edit: Uh, forgot that I break a straight line on the bottom of the front-side window. Will fix it.

Edit: Maybe a better shading reference:

Chevrolet Aveo 4 doors Sedan, BTW.

Thanks, tim. As you said in another thread, proper workflow is the key. Lessons are being learned.

Anyway, finally got to start another car model, after losing my work yesterday (luckily outlines preserved), I had to redo it, and the results aren't half band:

Pointers are more than welcome. The outline around the frame above tire is confusing me...one lighter shade defining another ligther or?

Pine trees are tricky. I would personally try to make it without foliage first, and then add it.
