Pixel Art / Re: wutcha thank?? [wip] + browning

I'm counting 4 visible colours that you'll need to make this. The asymmetry is good in my opinion though you could take that further by imagining this heart as a 3D shape more and rotating it more. Also your lights and shades are just following the outline, instead, they should define the volume of the object. Why have lighting if they add nothing to the information you could have gotten from the lines? Highlights for example, do not follow the outline, but rather point out a specular point that has the most direct light reflectoin towards you, it'd be weird to have that all the way on the edge, because that means your lighting is coming from the back; which it doesn't as there is shadow on the bottom right side, and not light illuminating all around the object.

PS: Take the time to speak correct english please, I doubt this spelling is used because of incapability.

Take a glance at how the pectoral muscle flows into the shoulder, it looks now as though the left armpit is too low right now.
Also, look up how the bones appear on the surface at the back of the elbow joint, and take note that the lower arm kinda bulges on both sides, rather than just the top as you have it now. it is more properly done at her right arm so far.
Good job coming around so far, though you may wish to have less darkness below the belly button before you actually reach the groin area; the volume now looks shaded as if a really deep gap is occuring. Keep it up!

Tileable sounds like a fantastic idea! I still need to retouch the walls in my new room and wouldn't mind having a wall filled with pixels!

Fair enough, define what you want to do? Just a dynamic artistic still image, or an actual game character?
What theme, what perspective? Don't think about it, just pick the first thing you think of which will be compeltely random.
Otherwise, google something random, a game, a show, a person you like, or something completely different.
You don't need creativity with your initial idea, you'll probably change it halfway anyways.

Then when you got something, sketch it and post it, to turn this into an actual pixel art topic suitable for this board before it gets locked down and removed ;)

Pixel Art / Re: Alien Animations [update 1]
« on: July 11, 2009, 03:13:46 pm »
I recommend you to pause on the animations for now, and first perfect your character.
I see this chest plate and think it yields no relation to the underlying shape, make it accentuate muscularity more.
Then the arms go into the outpointing part of the shoulder pads, but they come from the torso as a whole, try to look at the shape of a human shoulder girdle, and then apply your shoulder pads to that, so first draw the creature, before drawing it's armor and making misjunctions in the joints.

then the knees should go up a bit higher, and the main bulk of the calve could be placed more inwards, right now there really is a bulge on the front side of the leg which isn't supposedd to be there. So globally, although alien, look at human(oid) anatomy more and redesign this guy for the majority. Then start thinking about his armor again and make it make more sense in both shape and attachment to the body.

You draw
You think it's imperfect (ranging from nearly perfect to total disaster, it doesn't matter)
You post
We feedback
We edit to display feedback
You process feedback
You improve the piece of art
You improve your abilities
Reiterate the process until it's perfect

So now post a drawing of your character in your next reply and we'll get to the helping. Although it doesn't work very well if you start insulting the entire forum.

Pixel Art / Re: Inconsistent Gate! Help Needed~
« on: July 08, 2009, 02:12:30 pm »
He meant that your gates are in no way attached to the walls, by hinges of some sorts. However, I think he did not notice that at the top the main vertical beam goes on into the roof. On the contrary however, this is still not good enough, as it is poorly readable, the bottom is not attached, and absolutely a weak construction without some decent hinge-like attachments inbetween

Although that post sounded quite offensive Opacus, you are right. It's more negative for you than for us critiquers though, don't show stuff that looks like an error, or actually is one, that you already know about. People will point it out and will waste both yours and their time. Post stuff you think is the best you can get it, and people will point out stuff you didn't see before.

Well referencing your work is important, but sometimes you just need to invent or construct your own point of view and persepective angle, and combine several references with some fantasy.
