Pixel Art / Re: [wip][nudity] Re-interpretation of old artstuffs
« on: December 11, 2006, 09:35:50 am »
In some parts I agree that a lot of motion has been lost, on the other hand I love the detailing. Iīd definitely leave the belly alone, the curves look good as they are.
If you really want to go back to the feel of the original sketch I think you need to rotate the outstretched leg again to get that dynamic feel back into it. Right now the problem is that the pose of the arms suggests motion, while the legs indicate that sheīs sitting. The other possibility would be to redo the arms (and possibly the hair) and change them to a more relaxed state (such as placing both hands with straight arms on the imagined surface between her legs).
All in all Iīd probably leave it alone. It looks great, and overdoctoring it now probably wonīt help all that much.

@sharprm: I donīt think your edit works, there isnīt much movement to it since to make it into a proper "landing" pose youīd need to rework more than just the rear leg. In any case, I donīt even think that leg is the issue. Also: wtf about those leaves???

The overall shape is a bit boring, also the trunk:crown ration doesnīt really work (a tree with that kind of trunk would probably support more branches on top). Apart from what bacccaman said Iīd focus on working on getting a shape thatīs a bit more interesting. Your tree doesnīt really have a personality..
You could also use the shading to give it a bit more depth (i.e. roundness to the crown).

Pixel Art / Re: Blood Splash Animation
« on: November 21, 2006, 10:24:16 pm »
I like the idea of adding shapes to the explosion (reminds me a lot of xcom), and while your detailing is great itīs neither very smooth nor blood-like.
From the individual frames you posted it seems like you didnīt pay enough attention to two things: 1) viscosity and 2) blob tracking. A spatter of blood is a liquid, and a pretty thick one at that. You need to track the individual masses, just like with any other animation. If you look where each blob goes, you can easily fill in the connections and have them fade out / mist out wherever you want.
Also like the others mentioned, your detailing is great, but imo that can be a handicap when it comes to animations.

tips: start simple, make a few splashes, spatters and blobs. With more than 3 or 4 blobs the whole thing can get pretty difficult to track, especially if you donīt use layers (and if you do, youīll end up with hundreds in no time). ;)

hereīs an old, old animation i made a few years ago, hopefully itīll show what i mean:

great work, I love what youīve done with so few body colors. No crits, I *really* wouldnīt worry about authenticity. How about a gas-masked super stormtrooper type?

are you going to animate these?

I like it. the skin tones could use a little more contrast however, unless you were actively going for a bit of a clash between eyes/mouth and skin.

(go crazy on colors, itīs 2006) ;)
