Pixel Art / Re: [C+C] [WIP] Scroll Keeper frog.

Really cool character ;D

I think the cone of the hat is a bit out of perspective. The flowy animation on the scroll doesn't contrast very well with the stiffness of the rest of the animation. I think you need to pick a direction.

You need more contrast in your colours. This character will get lost in the background very very easily. All of your materials are shaded in pretty much the same way. Same number of colours in the ramp, they all react the same way to the light. Especially things like the buckles should be more bold with less gradation and more contrast and the skin should be a bit slick and shiny.

Main tip for animating very small is to make sure you animate pixel by pixel and make sure key points are always moving. Your arms just kind of lance in and out of the body. They don't even swing. Similarly the legs are always at 45 or 90 degrees. In a silhouette animation you only need to animate half of the movement, the left and right stride will look identical (assuming your perspective is truly side view) Which is nice but also makes it extremely important to make the motion from side to side very clear or else it will look like the character is just pulsing with their legs spread wide.

Smaller is not necessarily easier. This resolution is fiddly and takes a really solid knowledge of animation and how pixels work in order to create legible animation. I'd suggest making it a bit bigger.

well you need to make the animation play backwards. Feet travel along the ground from top to bottom from that angle.

Well you can always make an argument one way or the other about what would happen under "real" physics but ultimately animation is all about exaggeration. I think the way the hair and the drawstrings hang at the top of their motion is really pleasing, would just be nice to bring that into the coat, has a very magical feeling.

well all forces being equal yes but if you're standing up and flaring your arms out you might expect to sweep up the jacket, but there's no real force being applied to the drawstrings. Really though it's all about how it looks and how it feels and how it feels to me is that the drawstrings are floating up on their own. Which if you want it to feel like there's kind of an upwards gust of wind you might want to add onto the jacket. Same applies to the hair as to the drawstrings.

This is looking really good. Has nice timing and punchyness in the right places, which I felt your previous animation has lacked.

Only thing I really have to comment on is to watch your volumes and proportions. The arms on the blue jacket are very short and the bent arm on the red shirt is very long. The knee is also placed a bit higher on the leg than I think would be accurate. His hair really creeps down and envelops his head when he crouches down, doesn't really look like he's looking at the ground.

The amount of upwards momentum on the coat compared to the drawstrings is a bit off. I'd like to see the coat rise up a bit higher, really balloon out behind his shoulders. Alternately you could just tone down the upwards movement on the drawstrings, depends on how "big" you want the animation to feel.

General Discussion / Re: Graphics Gale Onion Skin REFUSES to work

The transparent onion skin image shows up beneath the opaque image on the current frame. If you had moved the black box on the second frame you would have seen the previous. If you wanted to see the white cross you should have made the black your transparent colour.

10 years on Pixelation today ^-^

Wanted to say thanks to the amazing community, Ptoing and the other admins and mods for keeping the place running for so long, the oldies that I syphoned knowledge from and the newbies who keep the chain alive.

Everything I learned about art started here and I wouldn't have the career or life I do today without it. Truly a unique place and amazing place to be on the internet. Here's to 10 more :D

Your pose is a bit wonky. Unless that staff is stabbed nice and deep into the ground she's gonna fall backwards :P

Knees together and hands on hips is a bit of a weird direction body language wise. I think pick your personality and run with it. Right now she's a badass on the top and a scared little girl on the bottom.

Biggest anatomy things to look out for: She has no back, her rib cage should extend out under the armpit. The arms are awkwardly shaped, too short, very flat. Her rear eye is too far across, and consequently her cheek is too far out, bring it all back in a few pixels. The rear boob is too far out in the same manner as the eye, looks like it's connected to her shoulder.

Take it easy on the hair shading, especially the highlight colour. Your contrast is way too high to be using that much highlight. A little sheen will serve you much better.
