Pixel Art / Caster Sprite Animation
« on: November 12, 2016, 01:54:17 am »

Never animated a sprite in my life. Trying to get it to work. Going to be posting WIPs here, would love c+c. Just blocking out shapes at the moment. I was trying to render from the get-go originally and it wasn't working at all.

This is the character i'm supposed to be doing. Doesn't belong to me.

Pixel Art / [C+C] Fighter Sprite
« on: September 11, 2016, 11:13:37 am »
Stand alone fighter sprite i'm trying to work out. Never done much figure work at smaller scales. First sprite of this type, have the basic design down, need to figure out how to colour it.

If anyone has any good refs they would be appreciated, tried to google for fighter sprites to emulate the style of but couldn't find very many good references.  ??? (maybe i was doing it wrong)  :P

Will post updates, going to search for refs.

Pixel Art / [WIP & C+C] Demon
« on: August 03, 2016, 02:16:03 pm »
EDIT: Changed the thread name because beyond anatomy.

This is what I'm working on atm. Would like help with the arms, hands and neck area, and they aren't looking right to me.

I'm currently working in one of my favourite skin pallets, once i figure out all the shading i will be turning it all grey. But i was having difficulties coming up with a functional grey pallet to use cold, so that's why he's the wrong colour.

General Discussion / Solved
« on: July 12, 2016, 11:49:46 am »
This is probably a dumb question but the fact that it's not immediately obvious is a flaw in the program. How do i select things without turning them into brushes and move that selection around the canvas? Because as it is i can't find any tool that does this, or any information on how to do this in the help menu. And it's such a basic part of my work flow. x__x

It makes the program unusable for me.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Female half body ~ Mild Nudity ~ Anatomy help
« on: July 25, 2009, 05:25:26 pm »
This is still really wip, i will continue to post it in this thread as i work. It's a personal peice and is going to be of my gaia avatar, for use in signatures and sundry. I'm planning for it to be my first ever animation once i get things working.

My main concern is the arms, i'm unsure as to what is wrong. Just that they look wrong.  :-\

Pixel Art / [WIP, Some Nudity] Now heyy13's Art Dump ~ UPDATED 21/10/08
« on: August 29, 2008, 02:04:37 am »
This is now my art dump for things i'm working on and want crits for. Please scroll down to the latest post for the most recent project. : )

This dragon is a commish for a friend on gaiaonline and is of one of her OCs. I'm having trouble rendering the rocks and would like some advice on how to proceed.

The rocks are supposed to appear as if they're being held togeather only by the roots of the tree.

Sellout was applied purposefully as i've never done it before and wanted to give it a try.

Pixel Art / Tiny (for me) Pixel Person ~ C+C wanted
« on: June 12, 2008, 12:46:58 am »
This is my first time pixeling a person who's full dimentions would be less than 150ish pixels tall. So i would like lots of crits on how i can improve her as i'm not used to pixeling on this scale. : )

12 Colours, pallet can be seen on the side of the image.

C+C please.

Pixel Art / [WIP] My first iso... ~ Update 25/2/08
« on: January 17, 2008, 02:21:39 pm »
After a stressful incedent (makes me want to pixel) tonight i decided to have a shot at iso and tileing for the first time ever. I'm makeing a set of tiles for the basic, long grass, short grass, bushes, trees, rocks in grass, etc. Just to give it a shot. Please give me pointers.

I'm especially unhappy with the tree, but i've been working for an hour and abit on them on and off (i'm reading and posting on a forum elsewhere at the same time as working on them) and i've gotten to the point that i can no longer see the mistakes with the tree since it's the item i devoted 60% of the time too, but most of that was on the foliage, the trunk is a slap-bang job that i will fix once the leaves are right.

Any c+c and advice would be fantastic. As i said, this is my first shot and i'm not sure what i'm doing.

PS. Sorry that they're in two images but i'm on my mother's computer that only has MS Paint at the moment and i'm useing an online image converter to turn them to gifs. The downside is that it doesn't do files bigger than 100kb so i have to cut my images up into peices to post them.

I'm looking for a program, preferably freeware or cheap which i can use to animate with. I'm entirly new to animation and i have some requirments.

I've used the freeware Microsoft Animator before and the main problem i have with it is that it kills the colours and shading whenever you import something. It removes colours and fucks with the dithering. So a must is:

  • Accurate preservation of the shading, colour and form on conversion to a .gif.
The ablity to maintain custom imported pallets from adaptive gifs (this is how i normally save my work).
  • Easy useability
  • Afordability (I don't want to pay $700 for a program... ^^;; )

These are my main concerns, i would like to know what you all use and what you can recomend. : )

Pixel Art / Mountain Scene ~ Hard crit wanted
« on: May 12, 2007, 06:11:56 am »
This is a scene i completed some months ago and has allready been sent off to the person who commisioned it from me.

It however has been bothering me since. I stumbled across this forum today and have been reading the critism given to by many of the pixelists here. It seems increadibly usefull and i would like some insite into what i could be doing better as this is one peice i want to improve.

I will be editing this peice and reposting as your crit comes in, this is a learning curve for me so don't think the work you put into replies wont be apreciated. Keep in mind there is nothing in the subject matter of this picture i have ever done before. Excluding the sunsety sky. which i realise needs alot more work. *is the first thing she's changing*

Program used: 100% MS Paint, converted to .gif format by Adobe Photoshop 5.0 Limited Edition. (Limited ed is just code for crap bye and bye.)
