Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] I'd appreciate some general advice

The upper half and the bottom half appear to be walking in two different directions.
The torso is turned towards the camera while the feet appear to be perpendicular to us.

I'm not sure if you were going for a Raggedy Ann doll, but it certainly reminds me of it. My mom used to love those dolls.

a slight colour edit, and tweaking of the face and feet. tis very nice! :y:

Your edit seems to have completely changed her expression. She is no longer happy in yours.

nah, they are dark objects on a light ground that come forward and make the bright look like water underneath.  lava should be the reverse - bright marks flowing out of and around a dark ground.
I would be curious to see an example of what you mean by this, as I don't understand it from just reading the above.

I thought the lava looked great until someone mentioned it looked like water, and I agree, this reminds me of Zelda when it is without the characters.

I like the less noisy background more, but maybe you could add more detail to the ground to bring more interest into the entire piece?
(While not detracting from it, as the background did before)

That's awesome, and probably was quite fun for your professor to see all your reactions.
Were people hitting ctrl+s after every key-stroke?

Challenges & Activities / Re: Mockup Frenzy #2: Ninjas!

I figured I'd go with the more 'Strider-like anime ninja in a futuristic setting'.

I love this one, it's so full of action and movement. Plus it looks like it is straight out of a GBA/DS game!

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Self Portrait

Thanks for the advice. It's a little late for this one, but my next I will definitely try that way.

Could anyone give me any tips on how to do the hair and the facial hair?
I'm thinking with the facial hair I might try to use that crosshatch dithering stuff.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Self Portrait
« on: May 06, 2007, 07:12:52 pm »
I'm not really experienced at all with spriting, but I've been roaming around these forums the past couple days and doing so has been making me want to try.
A lot of people have self portraits, so I thought I would try one myself.

I tried to do some of that magical dithering stuff...

So, here's what I have so far. If you have any tips, please do share. I think I'm going to try to determine my palette in full before continuing...
I don't know if that's how people normally do it or if they create it as they go along, but it's getting really annoying to make it as I go along.

First:
The hand currently sucks. The only thing that looks at all decent is the neck.

Second:
A little more work done...
I don't think the hand looks so bad, I added basic shading to the face to give a better general idea of the whole picture.

Third:
Added dither stuff to the face, nose and eyes look better now I think... I need to lighten the colors of the lips.

I was actually considering that one myself. I'm not entirely sure how I could make it though, but I'll be giving it some thought.

By "filled square tool" you mean a 2x2 block brush thing?
