Your edit cleared some things for me : ) thank you, I think I know now what is wrong and my lightsources was really strange now that I see it ;)

Yeah, about the colours, I tend to change the palett all the time (:,

The circle around the butterfly was a good thing! I think that was one of things that was missing.

About the fact that you choose the non-dither-version, was it that it was better or just because it was easier to show the changes without sitting all day?
Just want to know.. I cant decide really.allthough everyone thinks the non-dither is better I think it went with the style. ARGH, im going crazy :(

Anyway..I think I wanna try make the dither-one.. Its a new kind of style for me. And I want to try it out :) so I'll consider all your advices and try to put something together with everything you said in mind!

I must say one more thing.. The shading you added on the fingers on the latern hand, really made it much better, I will just rip that off, haha :)

Thank you! Now I need to eat then im going inside this picture again

Indeed I think I lost some of the necessary linings, tho I think the picture went better with the dithered style. Especially when it is a picture with such a obvious light source.

To get my dept back I added a stronger light in the lantern and I also put it on the lit places. Also put some of the "hairlines" back on the purple fairy.
I also removed some of the dithering on a coupple of places, on is forhead and nose for example and changed some of the colouring.

About the  butterfly.. I dont know what to do with it really, Ive always been thinking that it is something odd about it.. I thought of making it bigger so I could more easely add some texture on the wings and stuff. Right now the small fellow is a bit messy. have you got any idea? S: Im Also thinking about changing its colours. Right now it melt in to the background too much I think.

I made some changes:

old one: New one:

1. Changed the place of the blue-haried fairy to a better position on his shoulder.
2. Changed shading from a lot of AA to Dithering. Thought it rewarded some kind of dept to the picture.
3. changed the light on HIS right hand. You where right boojiboy, I did a stupid misstake on that one :)
4. a few things with his hair

is it better? : )

Im working on this new piece. It's a troll and two fairies in a forest. It is not complete at all yet, some major things is still missing and the picture as a whole is not finished yet. Still going to add some things. However, I just want to know what you think about it, what I should change, remove, add, anything before I continue!

I wasnt able to decide if I want it to be normal size or x2, but here you go:

(One thing im changing at the moment actually is, the position of the small fairy, she is a bit malplaced on his shoulder, I found out when I uploaded the pic.   ::))

Yo Twirly

To begin with, try to make just a bit bigger sprites. It's hard to learn how to make it look detailed and not messy with such a small piece of art. I had a hard time figuring out
how to make it look good with so little space, but I started to make larger chars. and I made them smaller every time. I think a big misstake people do when doing small sprites
is that they use too much colours. It needs to be simple but still detailed.

I have a few old pictures of mine that could maby help you:

These are a bit larger sprites, not very hard to shade. You can use a bit more variety in colours on this one, it won't get messy that easy. However, Its important not to pillowshade anyway! (The picture is a bit political, I hope it won't be any troubble. Its one of the parties in my country wanting to get in to the European parliment)

Here is a small sprite from a pirate platformer I made a long time ago, here it's very important to have a big difference between your bright colours and your dark colours, to make a better contrast on a smaller space. If you start using a lot of colours, many highlights. It will end up looking very messy and actually less detailed from what you really want it to be.

This is of course a matter of style and taste, but it is a good way to learn.

Hope it can be of any help!
Good luck!

Hey Quake!

I did a edit on the first one with colours from Ampharos:

New:  Old:

I changed the lightnings colour from yellow to blue, to give it a more electric feeling and I don't really think lightning is that dark yellow. Also, to not make it very messy I changed the whole "bolt" so it looks more "controlled", I think the old one looks a lot like a sun or just a flower. The picture got some strange outlines too, so I fixed that by just putting a dark outline on the shaded side and a bit brighter blue outline on the bolt side. I put a blue light too on the left (his right) side to not just make it look more effectfull, but to take away the flatness.

I hope you find this helpfull, tho my crappy english!  ::)

Hi there!

hmm, i dont know actually... I think that x2 ruins the details when do low-resolution sprites.
However, if i wanted bigger sprites I should have done it in the first place and the game have come to
that stage that it will destroy all the code if I make bigger sprites.

I think too that some of the charm will dissapear if  it is larger. This is of course not a finished mockup yet and
many other things will appear.

A game is not all about the graphics, my job is doing the sprites. BUT, a great idea and story is
the MOST important thing. I have played many games with great graphics BUT with a terrible story and it sucks playing
such games.

I hope you understand what i mean.

Thank you for the critics!

I hope you will enjoy the game anyway :D
I will post it here when its done!

thank you!
I hope you will enjoy the game when its done, even with these small problems :)

Hi Ben2theEdge

This can appear to be a problem. However, the thing is this is not a DS game. It's a computer game and it really has to be 640x480 this time.
Warning singnals will be heard when your life is low though.

about the empy sky. Well, right now im working on a sun some birds and stuff.. hope it will make it look better

I placed the conversationbox in the middle, you can see the edit right away.
