Hey

been away a while again, thought I might post something again (or pixel for that matter)!

Just a small piece I made last night when I grew tired of Fable 2.

Made a Christmas edition too, just for you!

Im also working on this bigger piece, donno what I feel about it yet tho.. seems like it goes out of the style in the right part of
the picture. But here it is anyway, in progress...

Enjoy this dark season!

I think ive missed this, tho I think what is going on :)

I had the same troubble yeears ago, when I was under the username ; Umber. Some may remember some are probably too new. (I remember Peppermint pig was part of this)
I thought as Opacus said, this was some kind of showcase site, where I were to draw good things then people would celebrate me for my art.
I was stupid enought to start a fight, and stupid enough to believe that they wanted me to leave this forum. So I did, on my own command.

I didn't understand that they wanted to help. By doing edits and stuff.. I actually didnt even thought of that they more a less gave me a piece of their time
to make my style, art etc. become better.

What I grew tired of(naive enough) was that no one would write any C&C on my threads. That was because everyone knew that I was just going to
"give a crap" about what they wrote and dont even bother to edit what might have been bad. SO, all this resulted in... I didnt learn anything, I left...

Then after some thinking, I made a new account, new name, new start, I fooled everyone to belive that I was someone else then Umber(too proud to admit that I was wrong)
Ofc. They saw through my lies, (my art and writing was still the same.......god this is stupid). However, they knew it was me and they kind of forgave me, it was obvious that I knew what I had done wrong and everyone who was a part of this story was good humans and let it all go, they gave me a new chance.

So, that was really embarrassing... I beg you not to start a story like mine :) Just listen and learn, only you will loose if not.

wow, I love the style :) Im used to draw with outlines, but this is really nice! The pose is nice and so on, reminds me of Kenneth Fejers art!

Only thing that caught my eye is some of the lightsources and some shadows.
If the light strucks down at the glove where the light is put. Then it should look more like this.
even if its not, his back is way to bright for it. Also, he looks a bit flat atm.

I can't read if this is supposed to be from the side or a bit from above, so I just made it as I read it.
If it is supposed to be from the side, I will make another edit for you :) cos then there are some things that are not right
Other then that! nice piece of art

rough edit:

I had to add some colours to prevent the flat effect. Hope it helps :)

One of the problems is that the right leg, the chars. left leg is streching too much. You don't stretch your leg that much when you are walking if this was a runninganimation that would have worked fine. Also I think the animation needs a coupple of more frames. The right leg from the sprites view is good, but not the left. the foot seems to get the wrong angle when it goes forward and it is waaay too long. It should be just the same frames from the other leg but on the other side and reverse. Also I think it is much to lent backward as Tsukasa said.

But most important, 2 more frames on each round and short down the left leg!

This is the latest edit:

1. Ive changed some lightsources that was in the wrong place.
2. New butterfly, wiho!
3. I gave the blue fairy a hand, it looked like she had her arm cut away before.
4. Removed one of the legs on the purple fairy, will be doing a new one later on, can't seem to get it right atm.
5. I also removed some of the colours to make it more clear, tho I think I probably left some of the old somewere without knowing.
6. I can't really think of anything to do with the lantern, I changed colours. Tho, I have thoughts of remaking it compleatly, we will see.

I went with the dither-one. As I said before, id like to try out something new , now I just need to get it right  :blind:

tbh, ive been using MS Paint ever since I started. A bit embarrasing to say that cause everyone use these professional programs and I havnt had a single thought of changing.
I bet some other programs could be good or practial if you want to make a game (tho ive done..5 games I think, with Paint). So, I woudnt say you need something special, right now anyway.

Hey R!

I have a friend who have been doing programming since we were kids, I have always been the painter and he the brain. Some years ago he and I finally started to do some platform games togheter, eventually we grew tired(we where still in school) and I ended up with having no time at all left to make grapihc to our games. He started to do some by himself, and tbh it looked like shit. However, after a coupple of "failures" he actually started to learn by himself. I learnt not by reading about different styles etc. I think all about painting is that; just paint whatever comes up in your mind, and have the "mind-picture" as your guideline. It doesnt always become a great picture and a whole bunch of people tell you what is wrong and right or what to do and not to. So, my adivice to you is, go with your style and learn by every sprite you make. Don't ever delete a picture you have made. It is a great thing to see what you have learnt by saving your images and compare what you did to what you do now.

Another thing about painting I think is to just look at what others do. And try to "copy" their moves with the "brush". Although you dont know it when you paint, you learn by every pixel you put on the screen.

So dont become a prisoner in different techniques. Just go for your mind-picture and I promise it will be better each time you try! (Patience is necessary yes, but time will fly away when your  nside your art)

About the sprites...

The small yellow square dude has a lot of colours that is not even seen by the eye. They should be removed. When it is such a small sprite, you need a lot of contrast to make it look detailed. I think that goes for all of the pieces. Also, like ive said to others. Don't start small, go bigger and you will learn how to shade etc.

I made a small uppdate, and will have it up in some mintues. Altough, before I upload, I have one question... What is the blue and purple? My guess is some kind of ground tile. But is the game angle from the side or from above? :)

(sorry its not transparent)

This is the "edit", or more like a hint about how it could be. Play with angles and dont be afraid to use different colors. I made it bigger to. easier to shade etc.
Take a look, then try to put your style into it and give it some tries! Good Luck and dont give up!
