Eep, my person's going to be a toughie for me, but trying new things is part of the fun  :)

same here. I really expect something as great as what i'm going to give.
I don't.   :(
Oh well, I'll still enjoy it.   :)
Just so you guys know, the person you're giving to isn't necessarily the person you're receiving from... otherwise there wouldn't be much "secret" in the "secret santa"  ;)

Got back to this today, thanks for the suggestions again :)
I deepened and expanded the shadows (does this help with the contrast and arm-readability issues?)  I also lowered the eye.  The heart still needs some touching up, and I'll try adding some bloodstains at the end ;)

Thanks for the replies everyone!
Unfortunately I'll be away from my computer for the next couple of days, but I'll certainly be playing around with all the suggestions you have made when I get back :)
Just a couple of things to mention: the red stuff coming from the heart is supposed to be arteries (so I guess it's not too clear ^_~), and the dress is supposed to be a little muddy because I want it to look old and dirty.
Please do keep the suggestions coming :)

Hi!
This is a picture I've been working on... it's a macabre version of the Queen of Hearts, with her as a crone who is dressed in the remnants of a decaying girlish dress.  I still have quite a bit to do (the hair, heart, crown, and border in particular), but I would appreciate any crit you have.  Thank you  :)

I apologize for the double-post...

latest version:

I hope I have addressed the issues brought up ^_^
I'm still working on the background, and haven't refined it yet.  I want to keep it simple and non-intrusive, am I on the right track?
Thanks ^_^

Thanks for the replies ^_^

Fool: haha, true, and I did originally draw her normal hands, but I'm kind of attached to the hooves now... I think it makes her look a bit more interesting ^_^

Sharm: oh, now I gotcha!  I'm fiddling with the aa right now, so I'll be sure to pay attention to what you pointed out.

Vellan: the fading foreground was one of my worries... I'll be changing around the background colours, I think to paler tones.  A darker background (at least the one I tried) didn't work too well, the dark browns seemed to fade even more.  As for the crowding issue, I see what you mean.  I moved the top-right bird further out and I think it really helped with that.

I will post an update later today, thanks again ^_^

Looks really cool!  As for crit, the line going down the middle of the back (I don't know the name, but the line beneath the lower trapezius muscles) seems a little too straight as it goes to the right, so it doesn't look centred on the back.
Looking forward to the finished piece ^_^

Thank you Sharm; I fixed a few of the curves on the vines and the antlers, let me know if I missed any ^_^

26 colours including background

Added the birds in, but still need to fix up that dress a bit... if I kept the same general colour scheme for the background as it now, does the foreground disappear into the background too much?
Thanks ^_^

Hi, first post, glad to be here ^_^
I would appreciate some advice as to how to improve the picture I'm currently working on.  As you can see from the pencil lines it's still a WIP... besides adding the birds and background, I still have to fix up the dress on our bottom right (which I forgot to do before posting here  :-[).
I'm a pixel newbie, so any advice is appreciated... for example, I was thinking of putting some AA between the figure and the background, but is that necessary?
Thanks ^_^

22 colours so far (not including pencil lines)
