Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Full body Leather Armor

For a novice (being myself the uberskilled master ::)), I always suggest trying to put the lightsource above the object they are shading, for it gives a better understanding on the shape of the object, and it is symetrical :P

A basic example that doesn't really resemble leather (and resembles more clay, perhaps a few sticthes and stuff like roughness and it'd look like leather...):

I just arranged the pallette like that because it was fun.  :P

I've been poking around trying to make it bird like but still keep what I more or less have now but have not had too much luck.

I will keep on trying and if not drop the bird status and just dub it as a new species!

Choosing between making it look like a bird or changing its form is a comprimise you have to take. At is current state, there are very little things indicating use that what we see is actually a bird.

Despite being apparently just a joke, I'd usggest not to redub it as a new species, for you still need a layer of associativity(?) for it to be believable in a way.

Back then i was like HOLY is dat zum KEWL ROWBATTTT!!! The Probotector cover arts and between mission pictures are awesome. Tho it is more manly to go fight aliens shirtless. I prefer the original men in Contra, but it would be great to have the Robots as secret unlockables.

Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, select start

*swisssssh!*

Probotector mode enabled!

Alevice: nice edit! , but why do you arrange pallette as that? is that useful?

Thanks. That palette was one from Alucard's edit, I don't think I used many colors there, and I was too lazy to remove it :P

New pic of Ryu!

I lol'd.

The only thing I appreciate, is that they have made all this public, despite the high risk on the reputation they have taken. I wish you could say the same of many other companies. And they seem to acknowledge the cirtism they have received and "will try" to work on that.

Way to justify yourself with a lack of effective arguments.

Why make an UFO your audience cannot identify as such? Why pick a dull pallette some person at other site used?

I'm not really fond of that animation. It looks as if the joints had springs or something (I can hear the "boing! boing! boing!" each things he "breathes"). I'd suggest you to actually try to bend/rotate his limbs at least.

Hi there,

Grinning birds! I love grinning birds, I wonder why they are not used more in cartoons.

I think the current problems here is that there are not enough details that indicate us it is a bird, despite being cartoony.

The first noticeable thing is the lack of a beak, or assumptiosn of it. There needs to be more sorrounding the teeth, even if it is just a little orange here and there so it is kind of implied.

Overall anatomy, many common birds have "fat" bodies (I quote it, because -more often than not- it is just an illussion given by the feathers) and narrow heads, and short legs and long feet.

About shading, there is a lack of a clear light source on the body, while on the head it comes from the top left (from our perspective). I think the colors need a little changes, but I'll let someone more educated on the field explain about it (or point out to arne's art tutorial).

I did a quick dirty job addressing those points, inspired for the most part by Squit from the Goodfeathers. I apologize if it strayed too far from what your intention of depicting is:
