Pixel Art / Blob walking animation, need helpz
« on: September 15, 2013, 07:53:24 pm »
Hi guys, long time ago since I last visited.

Been inspired to work on pixel anim, and decided to start with some blob walking anim, but I dont seem to get this thing right.

First wip

It was my impression that a living slimy blob would try to displace itself in a manner simmilar to a jump, so i set up this first wip, but I think it seems more like he is shooting something outta his head.

Second wip

It then occured to me that he should also drag himself forwards, horizontally, but I still feel it is not quite right, any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Actualy, olor means odor/smell in spanish. The swan could throw stink bombs or something.

Oh man. We found out what was causing the internet here to break for fifteen minutes after about a minute of working!

Done before reading the last two posts, so no changes based on those incorporated there. Also, hehe, the arms in mine are actually a lot different from the linearts :P. Personally, I'll like 'em, but I'll try making more real ones, to see how it looks :).
For now: I'm really unsure about the end of the tail, how's it look to you guys?

Great work on the dinosaur, I have seen it as your avatar at tigersauce. I still have a few comments about what i don't like on the current iteration: the legs. Those metallic legs not only follow an slightly different perspective from the dinosaur, I feel that the size and pose of them wouldn't hold/balance the weight of the dinosaur quite well, and that there is nothing that describes how the mettalic leg is attached. Below is an subtle edit somewhat addressing those issues I perceive on it:

I made the "frontal face" of the legs broader, the angle of the knee bending somewhat more pronunciated (I would guess a t-rex would "crouch" a little and stretch the neck when performing a sort of warcry), as well as slightly more rounded the sides; the perspective on them is still off :P. I also added a stitched plate on the hips/waist that would probably hold the interface between circuitry and neurons.

I hope it is somewhat helpful my comment.

Again, great work.

Thanks a lot for the pointers - they make sense, and the references I have checked (none of them remotedly similar to my current design :/) make it even clearer; right know I really need to think where would the knight be so i can try to more or less pull it off. I wanted it to be a generic character that I can put anywhere, but it would help me understand this principles better to pick a real bg and mold the reflection around the environment.

Thus, right now I have made a quick edit adderssing the base lighting and a little of added contrast. I didn't touch the legs much.

Don't ask the reasoning behind it, I just felt like drawing it, despite the whole concept being like an oxymoron.  :P I really want some critiques on this one, though.

so far:

I really want to pull a semi-realistic reflective metal texture on the armor, but my mind fails to find a way to pull it off somewhat credibly; everytime I tend to add it, I just end up doing an incredibly mess that shows even less volume in the shape as well. Certainly adding/hacking up a backlight source doesn't fix that issue.

All my pixeling and tiling needs are covered by Tile Studio

I really love these, specially the fatc that the infected bomb becomes and a tank, hehe.

I think the dude's forearms are a little too thin, judging by his head/torso proportions. If only they could be half a pixel wider.

I wasn't implying anything was ripped, yet, I didn't read Jericho's note as well. I feel this MC drama is all my fault, and I'm sorry for that.I still think you should strive for your own identtity rather than replicating others'. This reminds me when I more or less managed to identify/replicate Akira Toriyama's style and used it for a project of mine. Every original character I drew was automatically associated with Dragon Ball Z, rather than something on my own. Afterwards I realized that my very own style and own understanding of structure would benefit much more my work, and make it identifiable as mine.

That said, the grass looks to be on the same level than dirt, rather than over it. I'd suggest a more irregular and more, erm, 'bush-y' division between dirt and grass. Just to be an hypocrite, look at how it was done in MC, where you can tell grass covers dirt.

It looks way too much like LoZ: Minish Cap. I'm sorry I cannot be any more constructive, I mean, your skills are good and all, but your style seems almost like a xerox copy to me.

I really don't understand the composition of the image at all.
