hehe, it looks like i got a great new beta-tester... thanks for the feedback, the next PixelBoy games will be compatible with the PixelBoy buttons to some extent (the older version of the PixelBoy didn't allow that, and so Meteor Busters isn't compatible with the buttons of the new version).

I just wanted to let you know that the PixelBoy is totally FAKE, though i did some efforts to make it look real, indeed  :P ... and remember, the batteries aren't included!
Unfortunately producing a real PixelBoy... doesn't seem... possible. That would mean we would compete with the DS and the PSP, and well, even without those we don't have such an insane budget or even the "power" to do it. The PixelBoy is a funny little thing to play with, and it's totally free (*cough* and that's why we aren't working a lot on those games...)

^ it's mentionned in the PixelBoy site, but if there are some great pixel artists around here willing to produce the art side of a PixelBoy game (any genre etc, even a simple pacman would rock), you know where to ask ^^

(Why not a 6 on 6 indoor volleyball game running on the PixelBoy then, mmh? think about it Gil, haha...)

Thanks a lot ^^

Did you play it on the new PixelBoy by any chance? Many people complained about its original size, but i still like it small. Anyway, it's now displayed in size x2...
Too bad we don't have too much time to work on other PixelBoy games, but if you are interested just take a look at the bottom of the PixelBoy homepage...

Pixel Art / Re: fighting game mock-up ~pixelBoy format~
« on: January 25, 2006, 11:38:23 pm »
thanks for the input so far, and thanks for your interest!

actually the background (it has to be in 4 colors else it's really messy with the characters, and i don't want to add any white border all around them) is temporary, it was used for one of our previous works, just got reduced to fit the mock-up and give us an idea of how it would look like.

so many technical questions :P maybe you'll be disappointed, but the pixelBoy works online -yes, it's done in flash- . The idea is to use flash to produce some retro looking games, the limitations of 5 colors etc... have been decided, they are not a technical limitation...

ejay
really, you finished meteor busters. great new, a lot of people complained that it's way too hard, and usually don't even complete the 1st area (and even give up during the 1st "speed up" scrolling). But i don't think it's too hard myself... I hope that you liked also the replay value with the cheat codes, hehe.
And yes, i'm doing the actionscript myself. Actually i did everything for meteor busters, except the soundtrack. Things are different for that fighting game though, it's an idea of another artist that works with dot-invasion, he did the models and animated the guy to the right, while i animated the girl. 10 different characters are done now, but animating them takes so much time, haha.

Pixel Art / fighting game mock-up ~pixelBoy format~
« on: January 25, 2006, 04:48:40 am »
hi all,

here's a mock-up (soon to be a real playable game)(where soon = months, hehe) of a fighting game that will be available in our pixelBoy format (pixelBoy is a virtual console that has many limitations, for example the mock-up uses only 5 colors)

i hope you'll enjoy the image so far! C+C welcome, of course... thanks!

you can take a look at its implementation in the pixelBoy here (it's still only an animated gif so far):

Pixel Art / Re: sprites for a RPG mobile game
« on: November 29, 2005, 04:52:23 pm »
thanks for your comments so far ^_^

actually yes, they are all animated (little ones and big ones):

- walking animation: 3 frames (nothing too fancy)
- standing/idle animation: 2 frames

there's still around 25 characters to design and pixel for the final product, i cannot wait to see a spritesheet with all of them facing in every direction. i think it will be impressive, and cute at the same time.

about the "big" sprite, regarding the docs we got before the changes, he was meant to be the bad guy yes. now that you mention ghost'n'goblins, i think you are right, there's defenitely something similar with them, hehe :)

Pixel Art / sprites for a RPG mobile game

hello everyone,

this is just a small message that completes my previous post called "unwanted RPG-like sprites" (link here: http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=517.0). the client is finally happy with those sprites (believe it or not, we had to fight to make quality sprites, and it's not skill related, it's just that the client really liked a totally awful model)

anyway, here are the sprites:

note that those were the unwanted sprites. yes their size is very different, the client changed his mind a bit late, i guess ^_^
you'll notice that the character design changed a bit too...

crits (oh well, and also nice words) are always welcome. thanks! ^_^

Pixel Art / unwanted RPG-like sprites
« on: November 19, 2005, 03:55:23 am »
hello everyone.

here's a little collection of unwanted sprites for a RPG mobile game (the client said they are too detailed and too medieval). so let me share the design work we did for the characters (links below), and the pixel results (image below)...
if you have some comments/crits feel free to post (though i doubt we'll work on them again). thanks for your interest!

final pixel characters:

design works (if you want to compare. there are some differences though)

a screensaver... interesting. what about a screensaver for that peopleboy machine? :P

anyway i didn't mean to have a full long game, really, a simple breakout/arkanoid, pacman, "rescue the guys that are falling from the building" etc kind game is enough, but i thought that a game with those creatures was already planned, so i was more thinking about an adaptation of it... what do you mean with "life simulator"? you watch those creatures live by themselves? or you have some basic interactions like "feed", "kick" etc :P

as i said, i'm open to any little game...
