Pixel Art / Re: WIP character animations

Cute, it looks pretty good to me, not being an expert...though I think I prefer the initial design, or maybe just the colors.

Pixel Art / Warcraft 2/Starcraft style sprites [CC please]
« on: July 11, 2012, 05:14:35 am »
Here are some sprites i've been working on and I could use some critique here.  I intend to use these to create a mockup for an isometric RTS that I'm creating. Thanks for stopping by!
Any other advice you could give me for the project is welcome as well.

I still need some feedback on the colors. Anyone?

Hey, isn't this the same game as that other post? The one that actually says zombie in the title.

The game looks fun enough, I like the simple clean style you've got going here.

I'm not a big fan of the black selout myself. When working that small it can take away. A lot of grays going on here, not a whole lot of texture or highlights either.  It's like you the base color and have shadows but no highlights.  Another thing, I know that certain liberties are taken with perspective, but I think it's take a bit too far here.  In this case, the basketball hoop poles just look way too long for a top-down perspective. It ends up looking really strange and clashing in my opinion. try and make them more proportional to the guy.

Hi, I think in terms of composition, your image is verrrrry static! The application of pixeltechniques is fine though!
I doodled around with the impressions, dont mind the colorful areas, they are not supposed to be green/blue, its just a little game for imagination!

At the bullets, I could have done a little more so the perspective shows... but meh :D i think youd get a hang for it! Also changed the Lightsource a little and added a lenseflare (cooooool lol) aswell as the placement of the animal itself was changed, so it's not totally centered, you also had the horizon set at 50/50 vertically! Usually one would say that is not so appealing... so, heres a little concept edit!

Wow, there is something really dynamic and exciting about that edit in contrast with the original. The torso and core is not so rigid straight up and down in addition to the legs being bent and poised. I'm going to study closely for my own future benefit.

First that apple was decent.  Second, quit whin...jk  No, but I suggest saving that apple edit, studying it and try to create your own.
Maybe put it right next to it even.  That's how I learn.  try to recreate it exactly or something similar.  Will give you the feel for creating, plus it's a good one to start with due to the size.

Can you help me with the colors? I posted another update. I like it better now.

I see what you're saying, but mainly just with the shapes. Can you please be a bit more specific?

Should there be more angles or should the rocks be rounder?  I don't (think?) that the individual rocks as poorly defined as in that example, nor does it suffer from the same kind of stray pixel noise.  Are the rocks perhaps too shiny as well contributing to the wet mud appearance?  I'm going for the kind of natural rock wall that looks a bit like it was man made but was not.  The setting is a tropical island temperate zone.

I guess this is more what I'm going for, as far as a reference is concerned. Reminds me a bit of Surt's edit on that other thread.

Thanks for the comments.

General Discussion / Pixel Art Market?
« on: December 19, 2011, 05:02:48 am »
I was wondering if there is any future in being a pixel artist.  My concern is that with technology progressing so fast, even phone games will be moving to vector or 3dcafe art. I love pixel art, I just want to hear from some of you in the industry if a living can be made or how you supplement your income.

Sorry I let this die, life got in the way and I'm just getting back to this.  Here is the mockup that was requested, let me know if this is NOT what you had in mind.

Thanks,

Ian
