Pixel Art / Re: [WIP]Isometrics

I really think you should go back and finish the other pieces you started before working on all these new ones.

I agree with Obsidian.  I know how it can be disheartening to have your pieces critiqued alot, with people telling you to do the whole thing over, etc. But they are just trying to help you improve your skill, which I'm sure you want, right?  Whenever people give you critiques, don't just start a new piece, which you claim will be better, and have better technique to it.  Just keep working on the original piece, applying the things people have told you.  Trust me, if you just keep working at one piece, finish it, and then move on to another, you will gain much more skill.  This doesn't just apply for pixel-art either, it works for sports, musicianship, inventing, etc.  So you can follow this philosophy:  If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.  Just try again on the same piece.  ;)

I saved my lines as a GIF, and when I went into GIMP to color them, it's indexed, and some colors don't work, some colors show up as grey, and other colors show up as an olive color.  What am I doing wrong?

Cool design! It looks sort of like an owl's head!  Right now you can't really tell that it's on tracks, so maybe if you did it from a different perspective?  I really like the pallete!

I'm not a pro by any means at all, but it looks great to me!  Good job on the shading!  I love the style you used!

Nice, you've got a Cube and a Wii. I'm quite jealous.

Back on topic, it looks pretty good. Everything is easily readable.  :) The one thing that looks off is the bed, since there are no corner posts and the pillows are completey flat. Add some wrinkles to the blanket too. Other than that, nice work.

The reason that there aren't any corner posts is that there isn't any to begin with.  It's just a mattress on the floor.  In reality it's an air matress, and it's flat, so I just made a regular one.  As for the pillows, thats one thing I needed help with.  Do you know how to make iso pillows?

Pixel Art / Isometric Bachelor Pad [WIP]
« on: June 16, 2007, 08:30:40 pm »
I didn't see the point in polluting the board and making another thread, so I suppose I'll just stay with this one for now.  :noob:  Earlier I tried making my bedroom in isometric perspective, and there were a lot of problems, so .TakaM suggested that I re-do the lineart.  So I've started from scratch, but this time I decided to make an entire bachelor pad, that way I'm not limited by what's in my room, but only my imagination. :D  So you will notice that there are some things that not every person might have in their house, but why not make this as awesome as possible?  As you can see, I quite like the idea of one big room, but separated by different levels.  The stick man is just so that I can make sure everything is proportionate. :P

I'll try to keep you as updated as possible, so keep checking back to see if things have changed.
I really appreciate any critiques, because I'm really trying to get good at pixeling.
Also, so that nobody gets confused, all of the posts up until my post after .TakaM are now null.

Thanks for all of your time!

I pretty much agree with turbo, it does look better at 2x, but imo the squarish head is a little odd with the body... maybe if you rounded the bottom off a little?

Pixel Art / Re: Some ongoing DS stuff (lots of pics)

I realise that the textures are pixeled, but I meant that the 3D models aren't of course. Besides, whenever somebody else posts something that is 3D, it seems like he/her gets flamed for it, and everyone says that it isn't "real" pixel art.  I followed suit, and I was wrong, so forgive me.
When I said they look like runescape, I was not implying that you ripped graphics, I was implying that they looked similar.  As in, they both have low poly-counts, whatever that means.  I really have no idea about anything 3D, so forgive my stupid comments.  The reason the grass hurt my eyes was the brightness.  So, before you judge me, just read my sig, because it really is true.  ;)

Well, besides the fact that this isn't real pixels, the grass pattern kind of hurts my eyes.  The graphics look somewhat like graphics from Runescape.
