Pixel Art / Re: Some Graphics for my RPG game.
« on: January 06, 2008, 04:07:41 pm »

Started this edit some time ago and it doesn't really fit with the flat grass and such but i think maybe theres something you can learn from it still, mostly that having some kind of light source is always good. even if you totally break it like i did it still looks better than when its just flat and pillow shaded. I think you need to watch more refferences, I'm not telling you to go rip everything you see, but you have to decide for a style you want to use. When you just copied the earthbound grass-to-earth transition every other grass tile looked out of place. Also, I love Earthbound but using it as an example to copy isn't really that great since it's one of the ugliest rpgs there is.
regarding your intro scene you need to use some references, google image "sea sky" or "sea sky dramatic".

Really, really nice... SD3 like.
Almost everything has been said already, butI think the grass area looks busy right now, I'm not sure how well it would work if you have a lot of those tiles at the screen at once. Maybe add some flat grass tiles in between?

Thanks for the edits Joshua and Alex, I'm sorry I didn't reply before but I didn't want to bump this up before i felt I felt that I had finished this. Unfortunately, real life, Christmas, and my own limitations as an artist made this last way longer than originally planned.  :-\
Anyway, in the current version I made him look younger in some kid of failed attempt to make the double lightning easier to fake. Yeah i know that isn't the right thing to do but The light sources and the anatomy was really giving me a headache.  :-[

Joshua:
If this had turned out as I originally intended it would have looked almost exactly as your edit. I love how well you shade to show the form of his face. Although I decided to drop the dark eyes your edit makes me wish i didn't. Class. Oh and he looks like Kevin Spaceys alien twin.

Alex:
Although it might look like I have plainly ignored some of the edits you made concerning the main light source I really have. I've tried my best to shade his chin area a bit darker without making his ear look like it had a spotlight on it. :x Not sure how well it worked but hell. This portrait has so many flaws still that I just had to get it done and move on. The crits are still taken and hopefully understood.

Once again thanks. And i hope that my lack of response haven't kept you from editing others works. :P Oh and if someone sees this and something with the latest version just look so awfully wrong that I must be blind not to see it, (other than his lack of eyebrows) or anything else I count on that you pixelationers will be nice enough to point it out. :)

Looking good.
Not much to say about it, you could perhaps shade the biggest horn a bit more like its round?
Also a rhino does have quite large ears and nostrils but since your drawing cartoony thats kind of up to you whether you want to draw it or not.

Oh and hi btw :)
