I agree that the character doesn't fit and I don't see why NES limitations prevent you from changing it. I think the background is really cool. It'd be a shame to waste it with a generic player character.

Wow, these look awesome! What a great improvement from the original full color logo :y:.

I would buy this shirt.

I really liked the hideous green and pink color combo that you discarded though :)

I've added what I think is a reasonable amount of tile variation. Haven't started too much work on background elements yet. The first couple of enemies have been sprited.
The enemies in this game are going to be based on various board-game pieces, these enemies are based on the pawn and bishop of chess. I realize that the 'pawns' don't look much like pawns. they'll most likely be re-done.

It's looking massively better. I really like the look you've created. It's really really cool  :y:

Hey Guys! first time posting something as far as art goes. I'm making a final fantasy-like game and made this tree in my spare time. C+C are helpful! 9 colors, palette at the top(black wasn't included in the final version)

I'm planning on putting this in a commercial game so all criticism helps :D

It looks really nice, but it could use some extra contrast on the leaves. I don't necessarily think you need to change the perspective, but having everything match in perspective is helpful.

This sounds like a really fun game idea! I like the art too, I really enjoy the simple, flat patterns, like the ground squares and stuff. I'd do something different with the house roofs, though. They just aren't working that well.

Hey woah.
I take full responsibility for this.
It was me that used the word first in reference to my own art, making the term comfortable to others.

I'm actually quite fond of words and how they interact with each other.
Alliteration is one of my favorite things, hence my handle (P)ixel(P)iledriver.
Palindromes and rhymes are cool too.

While "boobies" is not alliteration it has repeating b's and o's.
So I'm comfortable with and actually entertained by such words.

I was even considering naming the new character Booby Bandit (alliteration yay!).
But felt that Bootie had a little more pun to it in terms or being a bandit.

I think that would be kinda funny, actually. I just found it annoying and gross to hear it used repeatedly throughout a conversation of adults, that's all. :)

Also, I noticed the Stoven edit has striped socks, and I really like them.

Keep the dark outline?  Well, one interesting thing to think about here is actually using the color of the outline to further depict the shading. Use a darker outline on dark edges, and a lighter outline on the highlighted areas. Remember, this is just one solution to your problem. Use your best judgement.

I think this is generally the best solution. Black outlines, don't look very good, and make it look amateurish. When I first started pixel art, I always used black outlines for some reason, and looking back, or playing older games of mine, I always ask myself, "WHY?"

In the crowns section: I think the tiny little dainty crown sitting on her head is a fun idea, but I also like the main crown you have. The other things, like the earmuffs and tiara don't look good to me at all.

Also, I think her hair looks much better now, but it did have an interesting look before, because it looked like it was made out of crystal or something.

How about yellow with more bare, selective tiling? so most of the floor is blank but the floor texture appears in spots?

I think this is the best solution

They're really good, aside from the black outline. It's a personal preference, but I just do not like black outlines on pixel art, it always make it look much more flatter and un-shaded, so I suggest using a darker color and going with that  :ouch:
