Pixel Art / Little guy in a white suit (WIP)
« on: March 06, 2007, 06:50:52 pm »
Hi

the more time I invest in pixeling, the more I realize I need to start small... So, I've decided to create a little "Indiana Jones' Desktop Adventures"-like sprite.

This is what I used as an inspiration: http://www.theraider.net/information/games/desktop_adventures.php

This is the current state of the sprite: (<- the one on the right is the latest one)

What I'm trying to achieve is a 50s type of guy. White suite, stranded on an island in the south seas, never losing his sense of style. Just like "Don The Beachcomber" (http://www.ovi.ch/b377/articles/queen/headdress.jpg)

The sprite is supposed to have the left hand in his pocket and it's perfectly ok that he's a little chubby. :-)

any c&c is very much welcomed!

Thanks

RomanH

Pixel Art / Sprites for a "2.5D" jump'n'run
« on: March 01, 2007, 08:10:00 pm »
Hello everybody

I'm very much a pixel-art noob and come here for advice. Please let me know if this is not the correct place to ask.

I'm working on a kind of jump'n'run seen "from an angle" (it uses the same perspective as "Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga"). So, it's kind of a pseudo 3D jump and run. The biggest challenge for me are the sprites as the player has 8 possible directions to move (and of course the player can jump, etc).

How do you make different "directions" that look correct? Do you start with outlines and a trial & error approach or is there a trick?
And what can I do to make the character look cartoonish and cheerful? Is it just the colours?

Below is my first version of the player (looking south and a first walk-frame).

I would be very thankful for any kind of critique and comments!

thanks!

Pixel Art / Need help for my game (sprites and tiles)
« on: February 26, 2007, 09:33:26 pm »
Hello everybody

I've only just recently discovered this forum and I hope I've come to the right place to ask. There are some seriously talented people hanging around here!  :)

I'm working on a little arcade-like game and have problems creating good looking sprites and tiles. The game is a remake of "Uo Poko" a Japanese game which is a bit like Puzzle Bubble/Bust-A-Move turned on its head.

Could you give me any hints what I could do to improve the look of my game? I'm especially unhappy with my bubbles... but at this stage I'm willing to change pretty much everything apart from the size of the playing field (if that is the correct term)

here are some screenshots:

and this is the tile/sprite sheet:

You can download the game here: http://www.romanhoegg.ch/bg_main.htm

Thanks!!!
