General Discussion / Re: help creating colour palettes
« on: October 14, 2009, 09:26:32 am »

To add more blue or yellow, just use the RGB sliders. If you want to do it with HSL, remember that in order to go from your color towards a different one, the most direct route is not through all the other colors in the hue slide wheel, it's through less saturated iterations that stand the middle of the way between the two colors.
That is really the most useful lesson for me of the year 2009.

Of course it is logical, but I never consiously realized that!
Thanks!

Now I just need to find out how to find that middle color ;). Working with rgb sliders is more difficult than hsl of course ;)

Pixel Art / Re: Hexagonal Animated Water Tile

I really don't like those moving edges, they give this a very strange feel.

I love the improvement on the water itself, but you might be better off with non moving edges, or less moving edges. make larger parts of the edges move at the same time maybe.

And about the sides, you can also decide to not have any harsh edges and round the edges of into just darker versions of the top part of the tile...

The palette is a bit messy, there are a few colors you only use once or twice. You can or choose to use 'm everywhere, or choose to delete 'm. I did a combination of both, and tried to overdo everything.
I started with this because I thought you used a too bright color on the top of the head. if you would have done it a bit less bright, you could have used another color for highlights, but keep the amount of highlights little.

Anyway, I started putting in more dark and bright areas, edited your palette a lot, and got here.

   yours >>>>  mine

Oops, somehow the transparancy got lost!?
creatively fixed!

We could have a big quiz: Per image there are 5 participants, they all 5 make an image based on that ugly original one, the 5 are posted together and we have to guess who made which ;)

cool idea, but then id want an image that really enables you to be creative, because otherwise the entries will all be the same. Don't forget that also the entries will highly influence each other.

Man, with just 2 images that is incredibly hard to see. Also because I did not train in ages. And the effect is not so strong..

Explaining everyone how it works is already a lot of work, it would not be such an accessible challenge. but I like the idea of making 'm in general.

If again one of the tiles fails, how about this:

The fastest tile maker gets it, not the fastest claimer? Which means, in order to claim it, you must send the finished tile to Ptoing? Yes, that might result in you working on the tile and then someone else finishing it a bit quicker, but it solves the current problem.

Indeed. I see what you mean, the match is hard to find on 82 vs 81, but mine was there first ;)

Hehe, yup, well I had a hard time interpreting the edges of 82 as anything other than the fringes of an abstract swirl of pixels, it has an obvious clockwise motion to it. So, my 90 came out pretty realistic, but my 81 more abstracted, though I was up until 5:30am rushing to get it done, constantly checking here to make sure my time hadn't ran out. Technically it's not even finished, but I had to get it turned in, it'll work.
Hahaha, I see what you mean now!
But thats all just done by accident, the image is by far not a swirl!
