Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Starting From Step One

You may all be wondering what the heck the above is, and I'll tell you. The above is a G.U.D.N. tower from a gaming project that I'm leading called, "Lunix Palvitier™", a high-tech/space themed game series consisting of 4 planned game sequels:

Lunix Plavitier (2D)
Lunix Palvitier (3D)
Lunix Palvitier (3D)
Lunix Palvitier: Nebula Tactics (3D)

Did you really trademark that name or did you just stick the trademark on to make it more "professional"? Also, I'll give you a month's wages if you actually complete these 4 planned sequels.

Pixel Art / Floating asteroid with buildings on top - Crits please!
« on: March 14, 2007, 09:33:06 pm »
Yo. Designing a level for a game I'm working on. It takes place on an asteroid and well... it has buildings on top.

Anyway, it's the buildings I need crits on. Something about them just sticks out. I'm trying to use as few shades on them as I can 'cause they'll be behind the player. I think I might have actually added too much detail. What do you guys think?

Maybe you could try moving the mustache as well. Maybe have it move up and down? I bet it would look cool.

General Discussion / Re: Introductions

Hey, I'm new.

I started pixelling around 6 years ago when I discovered RPG Maker (every game made with it now makes me sick). Although, I take huge breaks every few months, so I haven't really advanced my skills as much as I would have liked. I'm colourblind too, which is an utter bitch when it comes to selecting palettes!

Anyway, I'm a total video game nerd and I'm in a indie games team called Perfect Run. And yes, we have actually completed and released games!

If you want, you can check out our games here: http://perfectrun.net/

Well this is pixelation. We like our pixels!

Contrast is an issue with your sprite. Too many shades per surface at this size is an issue also. Remember that in a small sprite where a leg is three pixels wide, if you use 3 different colors on it, every color is about one third of the leg size. Small pixel art pieces require extra simplification and contrast enhancement, even black outlines here and there to read well.

Right! So I'll simplify it to maybe 1 shade? I'll give it a shot.

I actually quite like the simple shaded version better. Reminds me of that Batman The Animated Series game on the SNES. I love the style of the sprite too.

I love how smooth the animation is. The only issue I had with it was the white pixel, but you've fixed that, so... perfect.

Uhh...
Well first off you don't need it zoomed at 10x.
This forum has a built in zoom feature.

Simply click on the image.

Hah! Nifty! I'm just so used to other art forums where everyone says "Too small. can't see it", then leaves the thread.
