Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Deep Rock Galactic. Portrait

First of all, i don't know the game at all.

My questions are: what is the purpose behind this sprite? Is it a model to use as a dialogue window? Is it a character that moves in a level? Or is it an accurate representation of the character?

Anyway i made some adjustments to give you an idea of how you should move. I modified the beard, the lights and some pixels here and there.

I'll write what i would change or i would pay attention to, in my opinion:

- Keep an eye on the the lights and the shadows, it seems like there are more light sources.

- Be careful on the palette (there are a few useful tutorials on youtube about that): if i were you i would try to use more shades, especially where there are more pixels.

- I've changed the beard because it takes more than 50% of the sprite and has little to no details and seems without any volume; it looks like a bib.

- If you do not have any pixel limit i suggest you to try and do the whole thing, instead of a portion of the body: arms, legs and so on.

- Be careful on the double pixels, because in this case it is not a stylistic choice or at least it doesn't look like it (i suggest you to see this youtube video for the most common errors done by amateurs).

- The "scouter" (i don't know what it is to be honest) on the eye differs from the reference because of the colours you used. In your sprite, it looks like a monocle.

- The cloth has a black and blue pattern that is not present in your sprite, this make it seems like it has a cloack because of the few colours you used.

- Without the arms you could have a problem implementing tools for the character. If your intention was to represent only the torso and then add the arms then the torso is way too big.

Hope this will help you, good luck on your project.

I like really like what you did here, especially with the water.

However I'd pay extra care to shadows because, to me, it looks like there are 2 light sources. People shadows and those under the cabine seem to be projected from a zenith sun. The shadows of the trees, instead, are more stretched towards the horizon as if the light source was lower. That's just my opinion though.

Okay, so a few more critiques:

In both of your top animations, the middle frame doesn't seem right, because the feet make a straight horizontal line, which makes it look like camera is pointed straight up on her, rather than in an angled top down view.
So maybe you should round the feet a bit there?

If you compare the top animations with the side ones at the bottom, it looks like we shouldn't be able to see the top of her chest, as the head would block it.

There could be some shadow on her chest and her shoulders to help separate the head a little.

Something like this, maybe:

Added in some anti-aliasing too more because I could than because I should... There are so many colors on your piece, so why not?

In the walking up animation there's something weird going on with her butt, because of the few highlighted pixels at the bottom. I'd make the top of the butt lighter.

As to which one I'd choose... Either? xD
Seriously, any one is fine. The one on the right looks more feminine. A little bit.

EDIT: It does kinda look like she's skating, though.

Hi, sorry for the long wait, but we have been busy recently. We really liked your suggestions regarding the feet and we're looking forward to further expand on that concept, we also acknowledged your impressions on colors. We'll make some changes to the sprite in the near future and we hope to share with you new updates as soon as possible. Thanks again for your patience and precious tips.
Kind regards

Thank you all for your help and kindness! We're taking notes, trying to improve ourself.
Not bad!

it's nice to be able to zoom the image

also, not that it matters, but you don't have to attach the images to the post. you can host them elsewhere, and link them using "[img]". i use imgur.
Thank you, next time we'll try to use the hosting method, we didn't know about that.

I'm also a noob, but I think that for a 3-frame walk cycle those are fine. A bit too stiff, maybe, but I'm not sure if it's avoidable with that amount of animation frames. Perhaps if her head moved slightly or if the body twisted a bit on the side view..?

What jumps to the eye is that her costume is veeeery dark. So it's hard to see what's going on.
Thank you too, we are aware that it does look a little bit short as a walk cycle, but we are trying to keep it simple for now. And about the colors we'll change them soon and share with you all next time.

What do you think about each walk cycle version? We discussed a lot about which one is better, but we didn't come to a conclusion yet.

Hi everyone, we are a group of friends trying to animate our first ever pixel art character. We animated the three main walk cycles (up, down and side), but we are complete novices to the world of animation. We'd like to have your impressions about it, suggestions and critiques are welcome.
Thanks in advance!

PS: Each walking cycle has two different versions, which one do you prefer the most?

Hi, we are InfinityExperience, a group of friends and we started learning pixel art from about a year. Looking forward to improve ourself here.
Thank you all in advance!
