General Discussion / Re: Isometric Art?
« on: May 14, 2007, 08:25:37 pm »
So generally, what you're saying is is the width of the isometric board is stretching across to be able to touch each side of the canvas, the height of it will be unable to?

I tried to make a perfectly even isometric block inside a 100 x 100 canvas and it didn't touch each side, would be a more simpler version to what I said, I was asking if it was possible to do this.

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] First try.

:'( Dude, that is wonderful for your first try in pixel art, welcome to the boards!

Have you ever gotten experience in any other mediums of art, as it seems quite like you have from the details and way you shaded it. But that's beside the point. This was quite a good piece of your first try ( better than anything I came up with at least ) there's just two things that really need to be addressed.

1. Light Source:

  • You don't really have any direct or general light source, but rather seemingly to have 3 maybe 4. If the light were shining directly from the front, there would be shadows around the arms where you put the most highlight.

2. Pillowy Appearance:
  • Well, the shading takes on a somewhat pillowy shading appearance or so. Could be just me but I'm not really an expert on shading, just wanted to point that out.

General Discussion / Isometric Art?

I wanted to practice on some isometric art, thought it'd be fun to do something different for a change. As it were I was having some trouble...is it possible to create a perfectly even isometric block of land?

Something like 100 x 100?

General Discussion / Pixel Method?
« on: May 14, 2007, 05:37:14 am »
I was just wanting to ask a general question concerning and wanting a few opinions about what sort of method each of you apply to doing different pixel pieces? I've always wondered how certain people come across that wonderfully done piece and how they did it and usually am stumped.

So I was curious as to the steps some of you take in the process to pixeling? :)

General Discussion / Re: General skill building with pixel art?

First off, I'm glad you are enjoying pixel art. I've just really started to pixel myself and am enjoying quite alot myself. I on the other hand, have been handdrawing for years. Some people believe that gives you a small advantage whereas I believe it isn't really advantageous as opposed to not having any prior experienced in any art mediums.

But that's beside the point. Pixeling is good, Tiles are fun, Spriting is hell! :) Good luck!

Pixel Art / Re: Stan's Dump Of Many Things Which Need Crits

Hey: Ah that crack. I thought one brought a bit more detail to a large slab I had nothing to really put on it detail wise and just lacked SOMETHING. So I figured why not throw a gigantic crack on the face of it to almost seperate it. Gives it some character I think.

Adarias: Wow. That is amazing!  :'( I've been trying to throw some different hue colors on there that have contrast but still make it look good. I thought purple would be the best bet as it's often it's own shadow but..oh well.

Like seriously, it's 4:00AM if you're going to point out crack and rock slab issues. I really need specifics cause there's about 10 + cracks and several ( obviously ) differently positioned rocks and I'm half sleep. So I'm off into the world of dreams and illusions! Later.

Amagad, 3 days working on a piece. Longest I've pixeled on a piece and actually end up satisfied with a work and felt it was completed.

And here it is:

Here's what I need, I need you guys to crit it so hard when I wake up tomorrow I'll cry.  :'( But I actually think the completion is right here so, tell me what you guys think!

Lightened the middle rock top crack a bit, looks better due to light source.
