I expected a post from you Dusty, I saw your thread and love your pack. :3
I for one posted one of my (Terrible) WIP packs on here and found it a great help, but then my skill got better much faster then I expected and I ended up scrapping those textures altogether.

General Discussion / Thoughts on Minecraft texture packs as pixel art?
« on: August 20, 2012, 06:57:05 pm »
I'm really in to making texture packs for minecraft (Never finish them but tend to make a lot of textures) and, suprisingly, I didn't even know that pixel art existed! I always used filters and what-not to make packs for minecraft, but pixel art stole my heart and I changed my way. Now, the real reason I made this topic was to ask; Do you think it deserves to be posted on this forum? Do you feel it really counts as "pixel art" (I have seen many a people say they don't)? Do you think that when viewing textures in minecraft it's worth making them pixel art?

I think that if you utlize pixel art techniques whilst making the textures, the pack tends to look better. However that's just my opinion, and I want to gather more.

Here's some examples of my textures, in-case you wanted to see and ,If you don't know what minecraft  is, to show you examples:

This one I tried to use 3 colours epr texture, however some required to have up to 6.

This one I was far more generous with colours, but I liked the end result :)

None of the textures above tile because I made them in a livestream and didnt want to bore people by tweaking them. :)

(Is there a type of code simillar to a "
" code on here?)

General Discussion / Re: On getting critiqued and battling critique
« on: August 20, 2012, 06:46:28 pm »
I guess I fit the first one the most, but thats usually because I get the piece to a standard I want after getting critique and feel like i'd be bumping way to old of a thread if I put my final piece causing me to just forget and move on.

@imnumberfour check the creativity thread it's in 3D and it's planned as a game, or atleast a playable tech demo, low spec top down JRPG kinda thing with pixel sprites

I may just be being stupid, but I can't find it. Creativity thread? :/

Haha, the GUI was intended to jsut be the cloud, but it looked weird in the cave area, so I quickly doodled a "rock". I know what you mean bout the GUI placement, I should probably raise the height a bit...

Thanks for all the advice! exspecially like some of those colour changes. ;)

I did intend it at first to become a game, hence the shadow colour, but I might scrap that idea and just make a scene.

On the note of game mockups, I made one to again test how well I could do a simple style;

15 colours and meant to be viewed at 2x, which is why it is uploaded at 2x. :)
