Pixel Art / Demon Slayer
« on: February 08, 2007, 03:42:30 pm »

Hey guys, been lurking a bit and I feel like pushing pixels again. This is a render of a character for a game I'm putting together for fun.  Any c+c would be great.

Some progress shots.

An initial quick sketch to set down the basic design first and keep things from going all over the place in the render.

Edit:
Looking forward to learning from you guys. Neat to see that Pixelation is back up.  :)

Pixel Art / rawwrrr

Every time I see one of those neat iso city scenes with everything tidy and in order I think it begs for a Godzilla type monster to come in and make a little mess. :P First attempt at finishing something done in isometric perspective. Looking back on the effort involved I have a greater appreciation of how difficult it is to express things this way.

Pixel Art / There are always more ninjas!
« on: December 01, 2005, 06:18:37 pm »
Here's a mockup I did today of a game I've had in my head for a long time. Studied a lot of video game screenshots to figure out how to make sprites stand out against the environment. The whole premise of the game is that youre the samurai guy and you keep beating up an endless mob of ninjas until you get stabbed into submission.  :P

Pixel Art / Less is More
« on: November 30, 2005, 06:28:08 pm »

I think that in the past my work has been too large to really benefit from the whole pixel by pixel approach to composition. I'm gonna start working smaller. Here's my first attempt to make a sprite that would fit on screen in a portable game. Any feedback on the result  is appreciated.   :)

Pixel Art / When I grow up I want to be a robot
« on: October 30, 2005, 09:15:27 pm »

I'm starting to feel more comfortable abou the idea of thinking in forms rather than lines on a flat sheet of paper. I also tried out an approach to break down the composition process into smaller simpler problems and I'm curious if anyone else does this.  First I made a pallete out of grey tones so I could focus completely on shading. After it was done I then tweaked the pallete to add saturation and hue. I felt more in control and less like I was driving a race car and knitting a sweater at the same time.

Oh yeah and robots are cool. I use to draw nothing but robots back in grade school.  :P

General Discussion / Zoomable Image Script Use
« on: October 30, 2005, 07:59:31 am »
Can I to use a modification of the forum's image zoom script on my webpage?  I would gladly cite credit to the coder/forum. I didn't want to reinvent the wheel or get into the tedium of posting double and triple sized versions of everything. :P

Pixel Art / Attempt at tiled scenery
« on: October 24, 2005, 12:29:24 pm »

I'm really interested in working on games for portables so I'm pushing myself to draw at that size. My goal was to make something that was easy to read on screen while still being fun to look at. It involved some fidgeting with value and saturation to draw attention to what's important while not letting the background become too washed out.

I'm crawling around in the dark on this because it's new to me. Anyone have basic advice on how to make good tilemaps and common mistakes to avoid? and of course CC please. :]

Pixel Art / Plate Armor Guy
« on: October 18, 2005, 03:28:58 pm »

I did my best to make this look more finished and cleaned than my previous work.  He started out as a generic looking warrior guy then I decided to give the armor a more insect like look. C+C is appreciated.

Pixel Art / Solid Snake
« on: September 14, 2005, 01:19:20 pm »

Found my way here through Pixel Joint and I recognize a few of you from Pixelation.  Haven't had the opportunity to draw much in previous months but it's been fun getting back into it.  Here's the WIP of my current sprite.  Any suggestions on how to make the image look more finished? I feel pretty strong about making the line art but things kind've fall apart when I get to picking colors and shading.

Here's a previous iteration to show you how i'm coming along this week. :]
