General Discussion / Guardian of Paradise
« on: February 22, 2007, 02:56:11 pm »
I was browsing around and I found this game on some freeware site, thought I'd share it here, because of the beauty and professionalism of the graphics in this game, even though it's free. But it's really more than that, if you play it you'll probably find out soon enough. I haven't gotten too far, but the gameplay is solid and you probably won't even tell it's freeware--It plays very similar to Zelda. Anyways, the real reason I brought it here was to share the graphics, which are probably not amazing compared to some of the stuff here, but after playing the game and seeing more of the stuff in the game, it really amazed me that it was all designed, coded and art done by one person. I was going to suggest it in the CC thread(even though it's not really commercial, but neither was cave story), but it was closed, and I decided anyways that the art really isn't anything to learn from, but just to appreciate.
Here's the link to it and some screenshots(Make sure you download the translation patch after):

Pixel Art / Some tiles
« on: November 25, 2006, 11:24:10 pm »
Well this is the first time I've tried to do some tiles with some hue shifts and such, and I'm not sure how they turned out.
I plan on expanding on them, but I want to be sure that this is working out before I keep going. Anyways, open to critique.
Current problems I personally have with them:
I can tell the grass growing up against the rock doesn't look right, I need to fix that definitely.
Not too sure about the dirt.

Pixel Art / Shadow of the Colossus Piece
« on: October 18, 2006, 01:17:54 pm »
So I was thinking of making a Shadow of the Colossus site, and I thought I'd do little scenes for each section. This is one scene I did. To note for those who never played it, SotC has a very desaturated style, and is very bright. There is no distinctive lightsource in the game either. I can't provide a reference since I just turned on my PS2 and found a nice view and started pixeling. I plan to maybe add Agro(his horse) into the scene, but not sure if he'd fit without looking too large for the scene.

Trying to replicate the light bleeding and brightness was really hard, and not even sure if I did it right. I'll see if I can find a good screenshot of the game.

EDIT:
Screenshot of the game(not the reference)

Crappy progress

Pixel Art / Sunset [WIP]
« on: October 03, 2006, 11:03:30 pm »
Decided to try again at pixel art. Anyways, WIP, still a lot of cleaning up to do, working with the colours and so on. I'm not good at this sort of thing, it's the first for me, and I don't know about the colours or the blending of them.
Anyways:

Pixel Art / Tom and Jerry
« on: June 11, 2006, 01:10:45 am »
Thought I'd try my hand at making a platform for my old childhood favourite cartoon. Still really early and I had a lot of trouble making the sprite surprisingly since I'm no great sprite artist(or any artist). Anyways, I plan to do a lot with this because for some reason I enjoy this more than most. I plan to make a lot of variation, including a lot of different levels (outside, inside, on a piano???, on a river, goes on) and a lot of characters from the show.

Anyways, this is what I have so far:

Pixel Art / Remake mock-up
« on: May 23, 2006, 01:38:08 pm »
Was bored and decided I'd try to remake the classic Zelda for NES.
I still plan on adding/changing some things, so I guess you can call it a WIP.

Pixel Art / Simplistic Tileset in progress
« on: January 25, 2006, 06:27:29 am »
Decided to have fun and pass time by pixeling up a simple looking tileset. For some reason the appeal to me more than detailed realistic tiles.

Anyways:

Pixel Art / Isometric Kitchen
« on: November 03, 2005, 05:37:05 am »
I don't pixel a lot anymore, and I surely don't do a lot of isometric. But I do browse the forums and admire others work. Anyways, I got bored and decided to try to do my own kitchen in iso, just to pass time and see if I could do it. A lot of WIP, but welcome critiques.

I find doing the objects in the kitchen are going to be the hardest so they'll come last.

Pixel Art / WIP Tree and sprite
« on: September 12, 2005, 10:30:37 pm »
Great to see all the pixelation people around again, I missed all the great art and especially those familiar faces!
Anyways, I've been trying to fill time and boredom, so I've done this. I'm not really happy at all with it, but I thought I'd try to maybe turn it into something.
