General Discussion / Best graphics in a NES game
« on: June 19, 2008, 06:04:26 pm »
In your opinion what are the best games on the NES in terms of graphics? Screenshots would be great :) I will hold off with my choices as I really want to see what other peoples views are.

General Discussion / Fire Fox 3.0 image blurring problem
« on: June 18, 2008, 02:51:50 pm »
Hi all, I`ve just installed FF3 and it is messing up the pixel perfectness of this website. I have enabled the zoom text only option and although this partly solves the problem when I enlarge an image it is still blurred. Any ideas? I seem to remember reading about this elsewhere. Is there a solution apart from going back to FF2?

General Discussion / Art Rage
« on: December 28, 2007, 01:42:53 pm »
Just curious, does anyone use Art Rage to do their none pixel art work? Check it out here if you are looking for a cheap Photoshop alternative. I would love to see what some of you guys could do with the program.

General Discussion / Staying logged in problem
« on: May 04, 2007, 07:09:18 pm »
Everytime that I come to this site I have to log in again even though my settings are on stay logged in. This has only started to happen recently for about a week or two. Has anybody else experienced this?  Any solutions?

General Discussion / Commercial Critique Suggestion
« on: March 10, 2007, 11:52:35 am »
I would love to see a commercial critique on the Nintendo DS versions of Castlevania. The games have an excellent blend of qualty pixel art mixed with low poly 3D models which is something that I for one never expected to like as I`m a 2D fan but these games have surprised me.

It would be interesting to see what other pixel purists thought though. How about it?

Another question I`d like to ask is how often these things are done as I`m pretty new here.

Pixel Art / Kenneth Fejer Inspired 3D Pixel Ship
« on: March 03, 2007, 05:43:09 pm »
After seeing Kenneth Fejer`s great pixelled 3D models recently and eagerly awaiting some more new ones I thought that I`d give it a go, boy what a mistake that was. Just kidding but it is a lot harder than it intially seems. Anyway I thought I`d post my effort here while I try to knock up a rotating animation for anyone who`s interested. I certainly learned heaps doing this and my next one will be much better now I know what I`m doing. I had to make a few sacrifices with this one as I ran out of texture space and didn`t plan properly in the beginning but all in all, even though not up to Kenneths high standards, I think it still looks pretty neat. Hope you like it.

OK, I managed to grab an animation, here it is with an alternate colour version too. Enjoy!

And here is the texture. I tackled it in the standard way that you would with a 3D model but this turned out to be a bad choice in the long run as I wasted to much space. It did make the texture easier to paint but when you only have a small 64x64 texture space like this one I think Kenneth approach, although a tad more difficult to visualise, would probably be the best way to go. I`ll try that next time if anyone wants to see some more.

Pixel Art / Duckling
« on: January 24, 2007, 12:29:01 pm »
I`m pretty happy with how this turned out but I have noticed that all my work is a little to symmetrical looking. Any tips on how to create some linework with a bit of energy? I find it really hard with the mouse to create movement in my drawings. Do you guys use mice or tablets and how do you go about creating your lines?

Anyway here`s the art. Please let me know what you think.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Frankensteins Monster
« on: January 21, 2007, 12:24:04 pm »
Here`s a little something that I have been playing with. I`ve taken it as far as I can but would like to know what could be done to improve it. I haven`t a clue where to start with AA so any advice with that would be helpful and also an outline that was a little more 3D would probably help a lot, selout I believe it`s called. These things are all new to me so please bear with me.

Anyway let me know what you think good or bad.

Just out of curiosity, as I am new here could I just ask quickly if you use the mouse to pixel or a tablet? I have both but always return to using a mouse.

Pixel Art / New member
« on: January 20, 2007, 07:08:09 pm »
Hi everyone, I`m a big pixel art fan and although not a complete beginner would welcome some tips from you guys and gals as some of the work I have been looking through on this site is outstanding. I hope to learn lots of great new techniques from you all and have lots of fun doing so.

Anyway, here`s a little example of some of my recent work. I have included the linework in the hope that some of you could show me how you would have tackled the same subject.

I`m open to criticism so fire away :)
