Pixel Art / 2D or 3D? [WIP, top-down, NES]
« on: June 28, 2014, 10:21:02 pm »
Allright, it's not really NES, but I wanted to make it look like NES graphics.
Anyway, here is my dilemma:

2D (left side) or "3D" (right side)?

Pros of "3D" option is that the characters looks more harmonious with game world:

But characters in this case have a worse readability, rather than in 2D option.

On the other hand that in 2D option characters are always looking for the player and this creates an emotional effect, player feels their attitude - agression or other emotions.

So, how you think, which option is better and why?

Pixel Art Feature Chest / GR#163 - Problems with space in RPG view
« on: January 30, 2014, 11:23:07 am »

Now the head of Boss merges with floor and it is not clear - how high this head relative to the floor. I tried to add a shadow:

But it's not solve the problem and complicated perception of the image, saturated with many details.
Any ideas to solve this problem?

Also, color of this character doesn't fit well with the level:

I tried a few variants:

And they are all terrible   :(
Anyway, which of the four do you like more?

If a anybody have good idea for colors of this character, please tell me. Or make edit!  ;D

Here is character and level:

PS: Sorry for my bad english  :blind:

Pixel Art / "Betelgeuse" TD shooter (NES restrictions)
« on: September 15, 2013, 01:54:39 pm »
"BETELGEUSE" is game I'm working on at this moment. The progress of development you can check on TIGsource and FB.

Also, I want to run this project on NES. And it would be really cool to release this on cartridges, I dream about it.
ITT I'll post all the graphics for NES version of game - for criticism and feedback.

Original post:

Bored from 5734L3R's/J2H development, so I'm drawing something completely different from time to time - to relax and distract.
I used a horrible and inconvenient palette from 5734L3R's NES mockup. For some unexplainable reasons I really like this palette and not going to change it :D I plan to follow NES canons (8x8 tiles\metasprites\3colors+bckgr black), but sometimes maybe will do extra works without color restrictions.

Totally inspired by "Robotz" from Atari ST and this great work by Heavy Stylus. You can blame that I make ripoff/demake and you'll be right.

General Discussion / orthogonal (?) projection?
« on: November 16, 2011, 08:29:16 am »
Saw at this forum (on Pixel Art board) a magnificent example of a difference between the isometric projection and the hmm... orthogonal? orthographic? oblique???? projection - in other words, between a view like in Diablo and like in Zelda. It would be grateful, if somebody has shown it to me and tell me about it :3
Sorry if i lost already created thread
