Don't stress about these things though, just keep them in mind, take a step back and look at the whole picture every now and then.

And I haven't been producing much pixelart so I'm really unsure where to add lots of detail and where to leave just fewest colours possible.

It's not a pixel art only thing, if you look at concept art for environments you'll see how they use light, shadow and level of detail to put things in or out of focus and reduce detail where it's not needed. For all kinds of environment art it's important to know how to gradually shade things to get depth.

It just happens to be even more important for video games, because the player will be inside the environment.

The brighter top looks much clearer.  :y:

I think you could work more with gradients to get the right sense of depth, try gradually decreasing the brightness of the rocks to get a fade effect.

I also think you are overloading everything with detail. Reduce detail where it's not needed, prioritize the areas that the players eyes should be drawn to.

I made a very rough edit to give you some ideas.  :)

Eagle Island:
This caught my attention, the art is really vivid and animations are juicy!
Be sure to check it out it this weekend, only 3 days left and he's so close to reaching the goal of 20k!

Why so many parts?
What I do in photoshop is I have one layer, a sprite sheet, which I just move each frame. Makes it much easier to just draw on it and make changes. Sure, having different parts means it's non-destructive, but the time it would take to manage the different parts would make it not worth it.

The breasts are constantly too high up. Compare to your reference.
Make more measurements if you need to, look at which parts line up.

You have to iterate and try things.
You need both curiosity and patience.

Others can help you for sure, but you'll reach the furthest when you keep trying and trying.

With this in mind, I would love to see more diversity among them. Don't know if this is something you consider. To give them different body types or more skin colours.

Why? This isn't tumblr  ;)
Diversity for diversity's sake is overrated

It depends on the intentions of OP. I like the consistent thicc look myself and it works well in pixel art imo

Well some people actually like diversity, so there's no need to start something here.
What the op does or doesn't do is entirely up to him, but people are allowed to request things.

I drew the edit in a style that made it easier to make changes, so don't take it at face value.
But I really want to stress that you need to reduce the amount of colors you're using though, if there's barely a difference in contrast between them, they're essentially useless and just adds an unnecessary amount of work for you.

If you want to improve the perspective I'd suggest adding something that clearly shows it off, like boxes, a sign that sticks out, maybe an Awning in the right place.
Just make sure you block it out first, with clear shading so the shape is easy to see, before you start adding details and polish.

Also, when I practice with a pencil I don't feel like I'm improving in any way so it feels like a waste of time.

Don't let feelings come in the way of improvement.
Or try to find a way to change how you feel.

Maybe it's because your not seeing the progress you're making, or you're not using a reference with which you can compare your progress, so you're just drawing blindly. Either way you need to be able to judge what is an improvement and what isn't.

If you just get over that initial obstacle of doing something you don't want to and start focusing on the goal of drawing good anatomy you'll soon start comparing your old and new drawings and you will see progress.
