Pixel Art / I have a dire problem

I was trying at a self portrait, and it was all cool until I realized I didn't know where I was going with it.
It's kind of big for pixel art, at least for me...



That's not the problem though, the problem is that within minutes, I went from original self-portrait to...
This.


I lack originality. All hope is lost. Save me. (Please.)

I gotta sprite some buff guy so I can show how much more I know about anatomy though.
Lately when I do fan stuff I feel like I'm dragging myself down. The next thing I do has to be original.

Anyways I'm really not liking their right arms, but I don't know how to work it out.
Seth's cloak thing's flap things are also bugging me, but I don't know what's wrong with them, and um
here's some things I used as references:
FireRed, Seth/Wes, and Ash's Hoenn clothes

I've been told Seth has some readability issues, but I'm not sure I believe it.
(Then again I drew it so I know what every thing's supposed to be)

Also if anything's not clear, just ask.

The title's just there because I hate my imperfections.

I'm not done yet, but I don't know how to shade such thin limbs.
(But my first priority when I start shading should be adding contrast)

This is just something I did while studying anatomy. (And it's not something that's supposed to show that I'm learning anything)

I quit halfway, but I want crit so that I can continue.


It looks uninteresting. I'm being too critical on myself, outside intervention is needed.
I hope to make my first walk cycles with this piece.

I'm trying to mimic the overworld model's longer look, and stuff.

He wears a lot of black, and I'm having trouble with that, too.

But please find something massive to crit, I hate it. Dx

Oh, Sol's the red, and brown one, the metal looking guy is Cyborg Ninja/Gray Fox, and the last guy with the spikey hair is Phoenix Wright. Just thought I'd say so.
