Pixel Art / [c&c] Cluttered Living Room
« on: June 16, 2016, 03:25:34 pm »
more of the my game MC's apartment. this time, her messy living room. this isn't final, but I felt like I was lingering too long on it, so I thought I should post it up for some crit as well. mainly looking for opinions on the lighting, since I don't really know what I'm doing, haha

Looking great so far!

First nitpick is that a lot of the shadows seem to be off. Especially on the toilet and trashcan. The said elements are not directly in front of to the side of the light, so it doesn't really make sense for them to have perpendicular/right shadows. Having that circle/cone of light gives you a pretty good point of reference when you want to know what angle to put shadows in, I don't have any access to photoshop right now, but I'll make a mockup of proper shadows whenever I get the chance. Shadows also get bigger depending on their proximity to the source of light, any objects that are nearer to the source will cast a bigger shadow, and vice versa, this alludes to the shadow of the sink. The inside of the toilet + tub also shouldn't be that bright, because the source of light is not directly on top of them, and they're insides are concave. The mirror, I think, is still a bit wonky, I just don't know how to fix it.

wow, this is great input. thanks so much :) I'll get on fixing stuff asap. I've started working on the other rooms as well so it might be a while but I'll definitely update it to reflect the crit I got. thankies!

« on: June 13, 2016, 11:36:51 am »
hey guys! I recently started work on a small game project for lack of something to do with my spare time. currently pixelling the main character's apartment & I started with her bathroom cuz I thought it was gonna be the most fun. here's what I have so far:

also with in game lighting:

any c&c helps (readability, colors, the actual drawing etc) the game is gonna be a half point and click adventure, half turn based rpg, so there will be quite a bit of exploration. any input is appreciated :)

your palette is kinda hard to read. i tried to add a bit more contrast. also smoothed out a few lines. it's not perfect, but i hope you get my idea :)

Does the creature have articulated rigid parts or a flexible but thick skin?
the skin is supposed to be something like plating or armor, i guess.

YES. The RAMENSHOP edit punnishly rocks. It's working well. Nice job, Ramen Noodle.

How about thicker outlines, too? I just don't like the thin hairlines since the beast is so thick and blocky - the thin lil' outlines don't jive too well. Though, I realize, outline style might need to stay consistent to match other gfx assets if this is part of a set, or game, or something.

i thought about that, but yeah, this has to fit with some other sprites too. it's a custom terraria mob, actually; i'm working on a texture pack that will fit this beast's style.

Triangle pattern shadow will be useful for craggy texture. ▲▼▲
and some crack lines are added.

:O
so beautiful i cried.

i tried emulating your style but i failed miserably D: am i at least headed in the right direction?

thanks for the comment, slym :D i was unfamiliar with delicious' art up until now, i love it :D
all the feedback is making me feel soo so motivated, so here is v3:

i tried adding more texture without exaggerating, though i think i overdid it a bit. i also made a few slight adjustments to the overall body structure. i may have strayed too far from the original concept, though D:
i also tried fixing the banding you mentioned, but i think i only managed to make it more noticeable. help pl0x D:
