I would love to see some background details put in with a really dark magenta - or even better, a color that would contrast your current palette.

I had assumed it was more of a style choice than a lack of technical skill.

Impressive as your edit is, Helm, it breaks the style. I mean - I understand completely that pixel art is all about optimization and careful placement and maximum use of mimimal space - but I don't think that when the sprites were designed they were trying to be anything like your edit. It's like taking the Powerpuff Girls, recreating them in Maya, and applying texturing, bumpmapping, lighting, etc. They're more detailed, but that doesn't make them superior to the original.

He seems to have lost some of his chub in the sprite version - it looks almost like he got stretched a little bit horizontally when you shrank him to sprite size. What I miss most, though, is some of the nice shapes that you had in the head in the sketch version. The right ear sticking up, the strong jawline, the horn on the end of the nose, they're all absent from the sprite. His head looks more cowlike and less rhino-like in the sprite. The right arm in the sprite also looks a little wonky, but looks fine in the sketch.

His left arm is too long - especially if it's supposed to be cut off at the wrist. The right hand doesn't seem like it has the right grip on that skull. Right now he's just palming it.

You can buy t-shirts wholesale online for about $2 apiece (nice t-shirts, too), maybe lower if you look around. If you live in or near a major city, you can find them even cheaper at wholesale stores and then you don't have to pay for shipping. You can build a silkscreening setup for fairly cheap, also.. it's even better if you're on or near a campus that has a silkscreening facility that you can get into.

If you were really interested in doing that, and you felt like you could move the shirts fairly quickly, you could turn a mean profit. After buying/making your screens, you'd be able to put out a shirt for less than $4, shirt and supplies included.

I played SA2 Chun back when the game was only in arcades and Dreamcast, back when it was relatively obscure and I had no idea what the tiers where. After the PS2 version came out, I got sick of all the Chuns and dropped her altogether and stuck with Makoto and Ibuki (and Sean, for shits and giggles).

Yeah.. FFA is kind of disappointing because of all of the Kens and Chuns. Especially when Oro has such a crap matchup vs. Chun. There are some great low-tier players, though.. getting your ass handed to you by a good Hugo or Twelve is always really humbling.

There's also a small but loyal SNK following in DFW. I'd generally prefer to be stuck on an island with Garou and KOF98 rather that 3rd Strike and Super Turbo.

I never understood why people didn't pick up Garou in the states. It's just as pretty as 3s, it's far more balanced, it requires just as much technical skill, it came out at roughly the same time. Such a fun game.

Pkmays, who do you play in 3s? If you tell me you're a Chun SA2 I'm going to kick you in the nuts.

I'm jealous that you have Planet Zero down there.. I'm familiar with the place, and somewhat with the scene you dudes have. That arcade sounds amazing, I never hear anything but praise from the people that play there.

I'm in LA and go to FFA.. the comp is great but the arcade is a shithole. A dirty, dank, smelly shithole. But at least I get the chance to get my ass kicked by Pyrolee, Edma, etc whenever I do show up.

I noticed that there's a few Texan fighting game fans here, and to you guys I ask: did you go to Texas Showdown last year? Do you plan on going this year? What games do you guys play?

I'm not from Texas, but I really want to make it over to Texas Showdown one of these years. I almost went to EVO last year but couldn't.

I play 3s seriously as Oro SA3, and occasionally as Dudley SA3 or Q SA2. I play Garou and LB2, but there's no comp out here, let alone an SNK machine of any type. I like CvS2 and Alpha 2/3 but I don't play them seriously on any level. And so, so, so many times, I've tried to get into GG, but I just can't do it. The learning curve on that game is too crazy for me.

Some exciting matchups in the first round.. especially looking forward to Mirre v. Ryona and Xion v. BOB. Shame that there'll be some real heavyweights going down so early, though.

Might I propose that the judges fashion a few trophies for the top finishers? Shame to see a competition like this without any pixels from them.
