Pixel Art / Re: Needing of a tutorial to draw sprite sheets and tilesets
« on: January 09, 2018, 05:39:07 pm »
There's also a thread dedicated to pixel art tools and resources in this forum. Should be some content in there with respect to creating tilesets and spritesheets. Here's a link to it:

Commercial Critique / Re: The CC suggestion thread.

Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 3)

The game was published by SquareSoft (now SquareEnix) in the mid 90's exclusively in Japan at the tail end of the SNES' life-cycle. For those that are aware of the title, it is renowned for its vibrant palette and intricate pixel work.

It was even featured in Tsugumo's De-Mystifying "The Greats" series.

High time this game got the Commercial Critique treatment.

EDIT: Fixed the link to Tsugumo's article

*BUMP* :D

@arachne: So...any progress. If not, would you mind terribly if I were to whip together a flash demo using your sprites...

If you ever want to do a flash port of this project, i'd be more than willing to help(i'm a flash developer). Hell I can even help with the pixel art if need be (big EGA fan).

How do you not check yer post before you post? I can't do that.

@Mathias: It's a special talent. One I'm also quite gifted in  :D.

@Micko: Good start. I like the 'chibi' vibe you've got going. I'm no expert in animation but something about the left and right head-turn just bugs me...I think maybe his hat isn't turning far enough at the extremes where the head is all-the-way right or all-the-way left.

I've tried to remove the obvious line, I can't see any others but it seems to be a bit...crowded if you get my drift?

Then maybe you should mix it up a bit add 2 or maybe 3 more unique tiles. Make some more dense in terms of detail and others more sparse. The tricky part will be making sure they mesh seamlessly with each other.

It's not beyond salvaging.
In addition to cure's edits you could shift her left leg up a bit
and change the position of her left arm so that it falls more naturally:

It's all iterative so just keep tweaking until your get it to where you want...

@Helm
Admittedly the piece currently lacks the level of realism that is generally evident in your work, but I hope to improve on that in future iterations. As for the hair, I intend to tackle that eventually, though I'm not looking forward to it  :-[

sumbliminal or not THAT is Jadzia Dax :)

Steve

I had to google that one...As it turns out I'm not much of a Trekkie, so any resemblance was purely coincidental.
